1؎: Imam Tirmidhi has narrated the hadith regarding the mangonel (manjaniq) through the chain of Waki‘ ibn al-Jarrah, so the purpose of this is that a trustworthy narrator like Waki‘ ibn al-Jarrah has narrated from ‘Umar ibn Harun; in other words, the authentication (tawthiq) of ‘Umar ibn Harun is intended.

Commentary: Explanation: 1: Imam Tirmidhi has narrated the hadith regarding the mangonel (manjaniq) through the chain of Waki‘ ibn al-Jarrah. The purpose of this is that a trustworthy narrator like Waki‘ ibn al-Jarrah has narrated from ‘Umar ibn Harun, as if the authentication (tauthiq) of ‘Umar ibn Harun is intended.
Note: (In the chain, “‘Umar ibn Harun Abu Juwayn al-‘Abdi” is a narrator whose hadith is to be abandoned [matruk al-hadith].)

Makhul (RAA) narrated, ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) set up the ballista while attacking the people of at-Ta’if`.’ Related by Abu Dawud with a trustworthy chain of narrators, but it is hadith Mursal. Al-'Uqayli connected it (to the Prophet (ﷺ)) with a weak chain narrated by Ali (ra).
