´Narrated Jabir bin Samurah:` "When we went to the Prophet (ﷺ), each of us would sit wherever he wound up at."
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
A gathering should be kept spacious so that every newcomer finds a place to sit and does not feel constrained.
One should sit wherever a place is found in the gathering.
It is prohibited to make someone else stand up and then sit in their place.
There is no consideration of rank or status in this matter.
However, if the person already seated vacates their place for someone of higher status, then there is no harm in sitting in that spot.
