Hadith 2641

´Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr:` that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "What befell the children of Isra'il will befall my Ummah, step by step, such that if there was one who had intercourse with his mother in the open, then there would be someone from my Ummah who would do that. Indeed the children of Isra'il split into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah will split into seventy-three sects. All of them are in the Fire Except one sect." He said: "And which is it O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "What I am upon and my Companions."

Its chain of narration is weak.
◄ This narration has been reported by Imam Tirmidhi [مصور من المخطوطه 172 1، وقال : حسن غريب الخ] and Hakim [129/1 ح444] through the chain of «سفيان الثوري عن عبدالرحمن بن زيادالافريقي عن عبدالله بن يزيد عن عبدالله بن عمرو (بن العاص رضي الله عنه)».
◄ Sufyan al-Thawri has been followed in narration by Isa ibn Yunus, Abu Usamah, and Abda ibn Sulayman. See: [الضعفاءللعقيلي 2 262]
Qadi Abdur Rahman ibn Ziyad ibn An'um al-Ifriqi, despite being a pious man, was weak due to his memory. See: [تقريب التهذيب 3862]
The majority of scholars have declared him weak. See: [مجمع الزوائد 56/5، 65/8، 250/10]
In the mentioned narration, there is a phrase «ما أنا عليه و أصحابي» “upon which I and my Companions are,” for which there is also a baseless weak corroborating narration in al-Du'afa al-Kabir by al-'Uqayli [262/2، ترجمه عبدالله بن سفيان الخزاعي]. Al-'Uqayli mentioned Abdullah ibn Sufyan in his book of weak narrators (thus declaring him weak) and said: “This (hadith) has no basis from Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Ansari.”

Note:
If someone says that Abdullah ibn Sufyan al-Khuza'i al-Wasiti has been mentioned by Hafiz Ibn Hibban in Kitab al-Thiqat, then the answer is that we did not find any mention of the said Abdullah ibn Sufyan in Kitab al-Thiqat.
◄ In al-Shari'ah by al-Ajurri [433/1ح111], al-Majruhin by Ibn Hibban [226/2], and al-Kabir by al-Tabarani [مجمع الزوائد 156/1، 259/7], etc., there is a narration from our master Abu al-Darda', Abu Umamah, Wathilah ibn al-Asqa', and Anas ibn Malik radi Allahu anhum:
Regarding the narrator Kathir ibn Marwan al-Shami, Imam Yahya ibn Ma'in said:
“I have seen him; he was a liar (a great fabricator).” [
◄ Regarding this narration of Abdullah ibn Yazid ibn Adam al-Dimashqi, Imam Abu Hatim al-Razi said:
“I do not know him (Abdullah ibn Yazid), and this hadith is false.” [
It is thus clear that this chain is false and fabricated.

Summary of the Research:
The words of «ما أنا عليه و اصحابي» are not established with a sahih (authentic) or hasan (good) chain.
However, it is absolutely correct that the “victorious group” (ta'ifah mansurah), the saved sect (firqatun najiyah), is the one that follows the path of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and his Companions radi Allahu anhum.
In an authentic hadith, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“And my Companions are a source of security (protection) for my Ummah; when my Companions depart (from this world), then there will come upon my Ummah those things (such as misguidance and innovations, etc.) that they have been promised.”
↰ From this hadith as well, it is evident that the path of salvation is only that upon which the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and his noble Companions radi Allahu anhum were steadfast.
