Hadith 2639

´Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As:` that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Indeed Allah will distinguish a man from my Ummah before all of creation on the Day of Judgement. Ninety-nine scrolls will be laid out for him, each scroll is as far as the eye can see, then He will say: 'Do you deny any of this? Have those who recorded this wronged you?' He will say: 'No, O Lord!' He will say: Do you have an excuse?' He will say: 'No, O Lord!' So He will say: 'Rather you have a good deed with us, so you shall not be wronged today." Then He will bring out a card (Bitaqah); on it will be: "I testify to La Ilaha Illallah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." He will say: 'Bring your scales.' He will say: 'O Lord! What good is this card next to these scrolls?' He will say: 'You shall not be wronged.' He said: 'The scrolls will be put on a pan (of the scale), and the card on (the other) pan: the scrolls will be light, and the card will be heavy, nothing is heavier than the Name of Allah.'"

Benefits and Issues:

➊ On the Day of Resurrection, some people will enter Paradise without any reckoning.
See: (Hadith: 4286)
And among those who will enter Hell, there will also be some whose deeds will not be weighed, because all their good deeds will have been lost.
See: (Surah al-Kahf: 18: 105)

➋ The weight of good deeds depends on sincerity of intention and adherence to the Sunnah.
The more sincerely a good deed is performed, and the more it conforms to the Sunnah, the greater its weight will be.

➌ Bearing witness to the testimony of faith—that is, believing in the Oneness of Allah and the Messengership (Tawhid and Risalah) with the heart—is such an act that all previous sins are forgiven through it.
Therefore, if a person, after embracing faith, does not get the opportunity to perform righteous deeds and passes away, then his testimony of faith will suffice for his salvation.
The person mentioned in the hadith is such an individual.

➍ The testimony of faith will not save the one who, after accepting Islam, does not act accordingly, from entering Hell.
However, after suffering the punishment for his sins, he will be taken out of Hell, and due to the testimony of faith, he will attain salvation.

➎ Whoever uttered the testimony of faith only with the tongue, without having conviction in the heart, is a hypocrite (munafiq) who will abide eternally in Hell.
His punishment is more severe than that of the common disbeliever.
Allah the Exalted has said:
“Indeed, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire, and you will never find for them any helper.”

➏ This hadith is well-known among the scholars as the Hadith of the Card (Hadith al-Bitaqah).
This hadith appears to be a manifestation of the special mercy and perfect kindness of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, for the sinful believers.
And Allah knows best.
