´Abu Abdur-Rahman As-Sulami said:` "Umar bin Al-Khattab [may Allah be pleased with him] said to us: 'The knees are the Sunnah for you, so hold the knees.'"
1؎: Placing the fingers of one hand between the fingers of the other hand and then positioning them between both thighs is called "tatbeeq." This ruling was present in the early period of Islam, but later it was abrogated. Abdullah ibn Mas'ud radi Allahu anhu was not informed of its abrogation, therefore he continued to perform and instruct tatbeeq throughout his life.
