حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ انْجَفَلَ النَّاسُ إِلَيْهِ وَقِيلَ : قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَجِئْتُ فِي النَّاسِ لِأَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا اسْتَثْبَتُّ وَجْهَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ وَجْهَهُ لَيْسَ بِوَجْهِ كَذَّابٍ ، وَكَانَ أَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ تَكَلَّمَ بِهِ أَنْ قَالَ : " أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ ، وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ ، وَصَلُّوا وَالنَّاسُ نِيَامٌ ، تَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِسَلَامٍ " , قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ .
´'Abdullah bin Salam said:` "When the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) arrived- meaning in Al-Madinah – the people came out to meet him. It was said that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) had arrived, so I went among the people to get a look at him. When I gazed upon the face of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), I knew that this face was not the face of a liar. The first thing that he spoke about was that he said: 'O you people! Spread the Salam, feed(others), and perform Salat while the people are sleeping; you will enter Paradise with(the greeting of) Salam.'” (Sahih)

Benefits and Issues:
(1)
Abdullah bin Salam radi Allahu anhu was a Jew before embracing Islam.
Therefore, he was aware of those signs
which were mentioned in the previous scriptures regarding the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
On this basis, he was honored to accept Islam.
(2)
Goodness and evil, truth and falsehood, have an effect on a person’s outward appearance as well.
Because of this, an intelligent person can recognize from the face
who is truthful
and who is a liar.
The meaning of spreading salam generally is that Muslims should greet each other abundantly with salam,
even to those Muslims with whom there is no direct kinship or friendship, or who are strangers.
They should also be greeted with salam.
(4)
Feeding (others) refers to providing material assistance to the poor, needy, and deserving individuals, which, due to mutual compassion among Muslims, is an important characteristic of Islamic society.
In addition, serving guests and preparing better food for them than the ordinary meal is also included in this.
(5)
The night prayer (tahajjud) is a means for the forgiveness of sins and the elevation of ranks.
(6)
Paradise is attained by fulfilling the rights of Allah (huquq Allah) and the rights of people (huquq al-‘ibad).
Entering Paradise with peace means entering Paradise without having to endure the punishment of Hell due to sins or because of the abundance of good deeds.
According to one narration, this sentence is also present in this hadith: (wa silu al-arham)
“And maintain the ties of kinship,”
that is, fulfill the rights of relatives. (Musnad Ahmad: 451/4)

To make greeting (salam) common means that every Muslim should be greeted with salam, and whenever one meets another, salam should be offered. And the one to whom salam is given should reply to it.

Maintaining ties of kinship (silat ar-rahm) refers to showing good conduct towards close relatives, which includes meeting them, helping them in times of difficulty, and all other forms of good treatment.
