Hadith 2449

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ابْنُ أُخْتِ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْجَارُودِ الْأَعْمَى وَاسْمُهُ : زِيَادُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ الْعَوْفِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَيُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ أَطْعَمَ مُؤْمِنًا عَلَى جُوعٍ أَطْعَمَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ ثِمَارِ الْجَنَّةِ ، وَأَيُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ سَقَى مُؤْمِنًا عَلَى ظَمَإٍ سَقَاهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنَ الرَّحِيقِ الْمَخْتُومِ ، وَأَيُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ كَسَا مُؤْمِنًا عَلَى عُرْيٍ كَسَاهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ خُضْرِ الْجَنَّةِ " , قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ ، وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ مَوْقُوفًا ، وَهُوَ أَصَحُّ عِنْدَنَا وَأَشْبَهُ .
´'Atiyyah Al-'Awfi narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri,that The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:` "Whichever believer feeds a hungry believer , Allah feeds him from the fruits of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection. Whichever believer gives drink to a thirsty believer, Allah gives him to drink from the 'sealed nectar' on the Day of Resurrection. Whichever believer clothes a naked believer, Allah clothes him from the green garments of Paradise."

Lexical Explanation 510:
Kasa means: to clothe someone. ‘Uri (عُری) — the ‘Ayn has a dammah and the Ra is sukun. This is a verbal noun, meaning a state in which there is no clothing on the body.
Min khudri’l-jannah (مِنْ خُضْرِالجَنَّۃِ): Khudr — the Kha has a dammah and the Dad is sukun. This is the plural of akhdar (أخضر). The green garment of Paradise.
‘Ala ju‘in (عَلی جُوعٍ): In a state of hunger; hunger is when the stomach is empty.
‘Ala zama’ (عَلٰی ظَمَأ): In a state of severe thirst. Both the Za and the Mim have a fatha, and the last letter is a hamzah, meaning in a state of being thirsty.
Ar-rahiq (الرَّحِیقِ): Pure wine in which there is no intoxication.
Al-makhtum (أَلمَخْتُوم): Sealed, whose vessel has been closed with a seal. This is an allusion to the excellence and purity of the wine, meaning Allah ta‘ala will give such a person to drink in Paradise a wine that has been sealed with a musk seal.

Benefit 510:
The mentioned narration is weak in its chain, as detailed in the research and verification, however, in other ahadith the virtue of giving water and feeding food has been mentioned and encouragement has been given. Therefore, giving water to the hungry and thirsty, and providing clothing to the naked person, is indeed a meritorious and virtuous act. And Allah knows best. Authentic ahadith regarding this issue can be found in Bulugh al-Maram itself in Kitab al-Jami‘ and in other books of hadith.
