´Anas narrated that the Messenger of allah (s.a.w)said:` "My intercession is for the people who committed the major sins in my Ummah." Another chain reports a similar narration.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
That is, my specific intercession will be for those members of my ummah who are guilty of major sins (kabair) and who are suffering punishment in Hell for their sins.
For the forgiveness of such people, my exclusive intercession will take place.
As for the elevation of ranks, the intercession of the Prophets,
the awliya (friends of Allah),
and other pious and righteous people will also be accepted.

Hadith Commentary: Ibn Battal said: In this hadith is a clarification of the virtue of our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. That is, in this hadith is the mention of the virtue of our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, which he possesses over all the other messengers, in that he sacrificed this specific supplication for the sake of his entire ummah and his family, preferring them over himself.

Nawawi said: In this is the utmost expression of compassion from him towards his ummah. In it is also evidence for those among Ahl al-Sunnah that whoever dies upon tawhid (monotheism) will not remain in Hellfire forever, even if he dies persisting upon major sins.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In a narration reported from Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
"On the Day of Resurrection, my intercession will be accepted for every person from my ummah who died in such a state that he did not associate anything with Allah."
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Iman, Hadith: 491 (199))
(2)
This hadith mentions the superiority and excellence of our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, which he possesses over all the other prophets alayhimus salam, in that he gave preference to all the monotheists over his own self for this specific supplication.
In this, there is also a demonstration of the Prophet’s perfect compassion towards his ummah.
(3)
It is also understood from this hadith that any person from Ahl al-Sunnah who dies upon tawhid (monotheism) will not remain in Hellfire forever, even if he persisted in major sins.
(Fath al-Bari: 11/117)
And Allah knows best.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Sinners should remain hopeful that intercession (shafa‘ah) will be made for them and that they will be forgiven, but at the same time, they should have intense fear, because it is not known for which sinner intercession will occur and who will be deprived of it, or regarding whom intercession will be made. For this entire matter is subject to the will (mashiyyah) of Allah, Lord of the worlds. If He wills, then so it shall be; otherwise, there will be severe punishment. The noble statement of Allah Ta‘ala is: (إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَنْ يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ) (al-Nisa 4:48) “Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills.” And He said: (وَكَمْ مِنْ مَلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَى) (al-Najm: 26) “And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except after Allah has permitted it for whom He wills and is pleased with.” On that Day, intercession will be of no benefit except for those to whom al-Rahman grants permission and whose word He is pleased with, and these will only be the people of tawhid (monotheism), for whom Allah Ta‘ala will allow intercession.

➋ The meaning of this glad tidings is not that a person should become bold in committing sins; rather, the aspect of fear should be predominant, for the hardship of the Plain of Gathering (maidan-e-hashr) will be unbearable, and Hell is far more severe than that. Furthermore, it is not known how long it may take before intercession is accepted.
