باب مَا جَاءَ فِي فَضْلِ التَّكْبِيرَةِ الأُولَىChapter: [What Has Been Related] About the Virtue Of the First Takbir
Hadith 241

حَدَّثَنَا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ مُكْرَمٍ وَنَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قُتَيْبَةَ سَلْمُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ، عَنْ طُعْمَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ صَلَّى لِلَّهِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا فِي جَمَاعَةٍ يُدْرِكُ التَّكْبِيرَةَ الْأُولَى ، كُتِبَتْ لَهُ بَرَاءَتَانِ ، بَرَاءَةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ ، وَبَرَاءَةٌ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ مَوْقُوفًا وَلَا أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا رَفَعَهُ إِلَّا مَا رَوَى سَلْمُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ طُعْمَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍوَ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، وَإِنَّمَا يُرْوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَوْلَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا بِذَلِكَ هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ طَهْمَانَ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ نَحْوَهُ وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ ، وَرَوَى إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ غَزِيَّةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَ هَذَا ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَيْرُ مَحْفُوظٍ ، وَهُوَ حَدِيثٌ مُرْسَلٌ ، وَعُمَارَةُ بْنُ غَزِيَّةَ لَمْ يُدْرِكْ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ يُكْنَى أَبَا الْكَشُوثَى وَيُقَالُ : أَبُو عُمَيْرَةَ .
´Anas bin Malik narrated that :` Allah's Messenger said: "Whoever performs Salat for Allah for forty days in congregation, catching the first Takbir, two absolutions are written for him: absolution from the Fire, and absolution from the Fire, and absolution from hypocrisy."

Commentary:
(1)
By "forty nights" is meant a continuous period of forty days and nights.
(2)
By performing the prayer in congregation continuously for forty days, one develops the habit, and then, in the rest of one’s life, is granted the ability to remain steadfast in attending the congregation. The result of this is attaining Allah’s pleasure and freedom from Hellfire.

According to some scholars, this narration is hasan (good). However, the wording (لَا تَفُوْتُهُ الرَّكعَةُ الاُوْلٰي) — that the first rak‘ah (unit) of the ‘Isha prayer is not missed — is not established. Without these words, in their view, the narration is sahih (authentic).
