´Abu Umamah narrated:` "There was never a surplus of barley bread for the inhabitants of the house of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w)."
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
That is, the quantity of flour in the house was so little that it would barely suffice to meet the needs of your household. This was because these people would always give preference to others over themselves, and they were a perfect example of ﴿وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَى أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ﴾ (: al-Hashr: 9). They preferred to live with just enough to get by (kafaf), and for this reason, even barley bread was not available in excess of their needs.
