Hadith 2342

´Mutarrif narrated from his father, that he met up with the Prophet (s.a.w) while he was saying:` "The mutual increase diverts you". He (s.a.w) said: "The son of Adam says:'My wealth, my wealth, but is there something for you from your wealth besides what you give in charity that remains, or you eat which perishes, or what you wear that grows worn?"

Brief Explanation
1؎: The meaning is that a person considers as his own wealth that which is in his possession, whereas the true wealth is that which he has given in charity (sadaqah) for the sake of earning reward, and which he has set aside for the Day of Recompense. The rest of the wealth he has consumed by eating and drinking, or worn out by using it until it became old and worn. Other than the wealth given in charity, no wealth will benefit him in the Hereafter. In this hadith, there is encouragement to spend on those who are deserving and in the ways beloved to Allah.

Explanation:
1:
The desire for increase has distracted you (At-Takathur: 1)

2:
That is:
The true wealth of the son of Adam is only that which he spent in the way of Allah,
or that which he himself ate, drank, and wore until it became worn out,
and the remaining wealth that is left behind is not truly his, but rather it belongs to his heirs.
