حَدَّثَنَا
مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا
أَبُو دَاوُدَ، عَنْ
شُعْبَةَ، عَنِ
الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ
مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ : " انْفَلَقَ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اشْهَدُوا " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، وَأَنَسٍ ، وَجُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
´Ibn 'Umar said:` "The moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w), so the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said: 'Bear witness."'

The splitting of the moon into two parts occurred during the time of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. This miracle manifested at the request of the people of Makkah. It is mentioned in the Sahihayn that the moon split into two parts, to the extent that people saw the Mount Hira between them—one part of the moon was above the mountain and the other below it. This is among the clear miracles of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Its occurrence is established by such mutawatir (mass-transmitted) hadiths that are proven with authentic chains of narration. The majority of scholars affirm this miracle.
