´"'Eisa Ibn 'Abdur-Raman bin Abi Laila said:` "I entered upon 'Abdullah bin 'Ukaim Abu Mabad Al-Juhani to visit him, while he had Humrah. I said:'Why don't you hang something?' He said: 'Death is better than that. The Prophet (S.A.W) said: "Whoever hangs something, he is entrusted to it." Another chain reports a similar narration.
`With this chain also, a similar hadith is narrated from Abdullah bin Ukaim. © Imam Tirmidhi says:
There is also a narration from Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) in this chapter.`
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
Humrah is a type of epidemic disease that causes fever, and red spots appear on the body.
2:
Those things which are not established from the Book and the Sunnah are prohibited; thus, amulets, charms, and incantations, etc., are also among the prohibited things. The presence of Qur’anic verses in an amulet does not constitute proof of its permissibility, because in the hadith, hanging anything in general has been disliked. This ruling is general, and there is nothing to specify it. In fact, in one hadith, the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever hangs an amulet, charm, or bead, etc., has committed shirk (associating partners with Allah).”

Whoever hangs something (as an amulet), he will be entrusted to it
Question: The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: «مَنْ تَعَلَّقَ شَيْئًا وُكِّلَ إِلَيْهِ .» [مسند احمد 4/ 310 مستدرك حاكم 4/ 215] The authentication of this hadith is required.
Answer:
This narration: «
Whoever hangs something (for example, a string of beads), he will be entrusted to it, has been narrated by al-Hakim [4/ 216 ح 7503], Ibn Abi Shaybah [7/ 371 ح 23447], and al-Bayhaqi [9/ 351] and others, through the chain of «مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ابْنِ أَبِيْ لَيْلَي، عَنْ أَخِيهِ عِيسَي بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِيْ لَيْلَي عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ .».
Muhammad ibn Abi Layla is considered a weak narrator according to the majority of hadith scholars.
Al-Busayri said:
The majority have declared him weak. [
Al-Tabarani narrated this same narration through the chain of «محمد ابن أبى ليليٰ عن عيسٰي؟ ؟ ؟ ؟
Abu Ma‘bad al-Juhani is Abdullah ibn ‘Ukim, and Muhammad ibn Abi Layla is weak.
The supporting narrations (shawahid) for this are as follows:
First Supporting Narration:
This narration is weak for two reasons:
First:
Al-Hasan al-Basri has not explicitly stated hearing this narration from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah radi Allahu anhu.
Al-Hasan al-Basri used to practice tadlis (concealing the directness of transmission).
Second:
‘Abbad ibn Maytharah: «لين الحديث» (weak) is a worshipper. See: [تقريب التهذيب: 3149]
Second Supporting Narration:
There is no explicit statement of hearing from ‘Imran ibn Husayn radi Allahu anhu by al-Hasan al-Basri.
In one narration, there is an explicit statement. [
But in its chain, Mubarak ibn Fadalah is a mudallis (one who practices tadlis), and there is no explicit statement of hearing from him, so this chain is weak.
Third Supporting Narration:
Whoever hangs a «تميمه» (string of beads), Allah will make it complete for him, and whoever hangs a «ودعه» (white thread), Allah will not let him remain in peace.
The chain of this narration is hasan (good).
Khalid ibn ‘Ubayd has been declared reliable in hadith by Ibn Hibban, al-Hakim, and al-Dhahabi.
From this detail, it is clear that the hadith in question is not authentic in terms of its chain.
Abu Majliz Lahik ibn Humayd (Tabi‘i) said:
Whoever hangs something, he will be entrusted to it.

The Meaning of "Entrusted to It"
The phrase in the hadith, "entrusted to it," means that when a person places his trust in what is written on a piece of paper, Allah Most High withholds His bounty from him and hands him over to that amulet, saying: "Now go and seek from that amulet." And it is evident that pieces of paper cannot grant anyone healing; therefore, he will remain deprived of healing.
Allamah Abdul Ra'uf al-Munawi, in his commentary on this hadith, writes:
And there is another hadith with the same meaning:
Whoever hangs a tamimah (amulet), Allah will not fulfill his need.
