باب مَا جَاءَ فِي التَّدَاوِي بِالْحِنَّاءِChapter: What Has Been Related About Treating with Hinna

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ حُبَابٍ، عَنْ فَائِدٍ مَوْلَى عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ مَوْلَاهُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ .
‘Muhammad bin Ali narrated to us a hadith with the same meaning through the chain of «زيد ابن حباب عن فائد مولى عبيد الله بن علي عن مولاه عبيد الله بن علي عن جدته عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم».’
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْخَيَّاطُ، حَدَّثَنَا فَائِدٌ مَوْلًى لِآلِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ سَلْمَى، وَكَانَتْ تَخْدُمُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : " مَا كَانَ يَكُونُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَرْحَةٌ وَلَا نَكْبَةٌ إِلَّا أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أَضَعَ عَلَيْهَا الْحِنَّاءَ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ ، إِنَّمَا نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ فَائِدٍ ، وَرَوَى بَعْضُهُمْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ فَائِدٍ ، وَقَالَ : عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ سَلْمَى ، وَعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ أَصَحُّ ، وَيُقَالُ : سُلْمَى .
´'Ali bin 'Ubaidullah narrated that his grandmother [Salma] - who used to serve the The Prophet (S.A.W) said:` "There was no wound nor cut on the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) but he would order me to put Hinna on it." Another chain reports a similar narration.

Benefits and Issues:

Our researcher has declared the mentioned narration to be weak in terms of its chain of transmission. However, other scholars have, on the basis of supporting evidences, considered it to be hasan (good). And the opinion that the hadith is hasan appears to be correct. Therefore, if a person wishes to use henna for the treatment of wounds and the like, it is permissible. And Allah knows best. As is well known among physicians and others, henna cools the wound and dries it. For this reason, minor wounds can be treated with it.

Applying henna to the palms of the hands is an adornment for women. Therefore, men should refrain from it, so that they do not resemble women.
