Hadith Commentary:
In reality, death arrives at its appointed time; no matter what measures a person takes, no matter how many medicines he uses, no matter how wealthy or resourceful he may be, there is nothing among these that can avert death. Indeed, it is true:
﴿كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ﴾
[Every soul shall taste death.]

Hadith Commentary:
The time of death is fixed; it will certainly come, no matter how much medicine is used. There is no cure for it in this world. Black seed (kalonji) is, in its general sense, a remedy for every illness, although some scholars believe that from this generality, a specific meaning is intended. They say that it is not possible for all properties to be combined in a single herb such that it becomes a cure for all diseases. However, our experience is that it is as general as stated, and there is healing in it for every illness. We use it for every disease, and so far, we have not experienced any failure with it. If honey is mixed with it, it is like gold upon gold (i.e., even more beneficial). A few years ago, Darussalam prepared a compound by mixing black seed (kalonji) with honey, which was very beneficial and successful. If a few seeds are taken with water at bedtime, then, in sha Allah, there will be healing from every illness. It can be used both as a single ingredient and in combination. Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah writes that perhaps Hazrat Ghalib bin Abjar radi Allahu anhu was suffering from a cold, which is why Ibn Abi Atiq suggested administering the medicine by dropping it into the nose.
