Hadith 1870

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفَرِيُّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الظُّرُوفِ " فَشَكَتْ إِلَيْهِ الْأَنْصَارُ ، فَقَالُوا : لَيْسَ لَنَا وِعَاءٌ ، قَالَ : فَلَا إِذَنْ ، قَالَ : وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade (the use of) these vessels, so the Ansar complained to him and said: We do not have other vessels. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Then I do not forbid (you)." © Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- This hadith is Hasan Sahih,
2- In this chapter, hadiths have also been narrated from Ibn Mas'ud, Abu Sa'id Khudri, Abu Hurairah, and Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them).

It appears that this restriction remained in place for some time. Later, perceiving the hardship of the people, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) lifted the restriction.
