Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to my house and said: "Do you have anything (to eat)?" I replied: "No, only a few dry pieces of bread and some vinegar." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Bring it, a house in which there is vinegar is not in need of curry (gravy)." © Imam Tirmidhi says:
- This hadith is Hasan Gharib through this chain; we know it only from the narration of Umm Hani through this chain,
- Umm Hani passed away a few days after Ali bin Abi Talib,
- I asked Muhammad bin Ismail Bukhari about this hadith, and he said: I do not know of Shu’bi hearing from Umm Hani,
- I asked again: In your view, how is Abu Hamzah Thabit bin Abi Safiyyah? He said: Ahmad bin Hanbal has spoken about him, and in my view, he is maqaarib al-hadith (acceptable in hadith).
