'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: 'A'isha! a family which has no dates (in their house) its members will be hungry; (or) 'A'isha! the family which has no dates its members may be hungry. He said this twice or thrice.
Shaykh Maulana Abdul Aziz Alvi
Hadith Commentary:Benefits and Issues: The staple food of the Arabs was dates, and they would subsist on them. Therefore, any household deprived of them would always be at risk of hunger. Thus, this hadith establishes that there should be some stock of the commonly consumed grain or fruit in the house, and this is not contrary to reliance (tawakkul) upon Allah.
