Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: This hadith is established from Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma both as mawquf (his own statement) and marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), from which it is understood that for grain-like items which are eaten one by one or mixed together, it is not permissible to mix and eat them without the permission of one's companions, or at the very least, it is contrary to etiquette and dignity. However, nowadays these moral instructions are not considered worthy of attention, and instead of following the guidance of Islamic Shariah regarding food, adherence to Western culture is observed, and people take great pride in this, thinking themselves to be very civilized and refined.
