1؎: In this, the etiquette and manner of eating has been explained: do not eat from the middle, rather eat from what is in front of you and from the edges, because blessing descends upon the middle of the food, and so that everyone may benefit from this blessing. Another point is that by doing so, the portion of food that remains will stay clean and pure, and will be of use to others; therefore, this should be kept in consideration.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation: 1: This teaches the etiquette and manner of eating: do not eat from the middle, rather eat from what is in front of you and from the sides. The reason is that blessing (barakah) descends in the middle of the food, and so that everyone may benefit from this blessing. Another point is that by doing so, the portion of food that remains will stay clean and pure, and will be useful for others. Therefore, this should be kept in mind.

Sufyan says: Ata bin Saib was once conversing with us, and I heard him mentioning a battle in which he had participated. Then he took a deep breath and began to weep, saying: So-and-so was also there, so-and-so was also there, so-and-so was also there, and Maqsim was also there. Then Saeed bin Jubair said: Has each of you heard that statement which has been said about food? So Maqsim said: O Abu Abdullah! Please tell the attendees that statement. So Saeed bin Jubair said: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrating: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, blessing descends in the middle of the food, so eat from its edges and do not eat from its middle.”
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
