Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wearing an iron ring. The Prophet said: "What is the matter? I see that you are wearing the adornment of the people of Hell." Then he came to you wearing a brass ring, and you said: "What is the matter? I smell the odor of idols from you." Then he came to you wearing a gold ring, so you said: "What is the matter? I see that you are wearing the adornment of the people of Paradise." He asked: "What kind of ring should I wear?" You said: "A silver one, and (in weight) keep it less than one mithqal."

Narrated Buraydah ibn al-Hasib: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and he was wearing a signet-ring of yellow copper. He said to him: How is it that I notice the odour of idols in you? So he threw it away, and came wearing an iron signet ring. He (the Prophet) said: What is it that I see you wearing the adornment of the inhabitants of Hell? So he threw it away. He asked: Messenger of Allah, what material I must use? He said: Make it of silver, but do not weigh it as much as a mithqal, The narrator Muhammad did not say: " Abdullah bin Muslim, " and al-Hasan did not say: "al-Sulami al-Marwazi. "

´'Abdullah bin Buraidah narrated from his father that:` A man came to the Prophet [SAW] and he was wearing an iron ring. He said: "Why do I see you wearing the jewelry of the people of Hell?" He threw it away, then he came and he was wearing a brass ring. He said: "Why do I notice the stench of idols from you?" So he threw it away, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, what should I use?" He said: "Silver, but it should not equal a Mithqal."

The statement of the book’s verifier declaring the chain of this narration as hasan is questionable, because in its chain, Abdullah bin Muslim is, according to the preferred opinion, weak, and no one has followed him up (in narration). For details, see: (Dhakheerat al-‘Uqba Sharh Sunan al-Nasa’i: 38/283). However, the phrase in this narration that describes the iron ring as the adornment of the people of Hell is established by other authentic ahadith. For details, see the benefits of hadith: 5208.
