Hadith 1766

حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا لَبِسَ قَمِيصًا ، بَدَأَ بِمَيَامِنِهِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَرَوَى غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ مَوْقُوفًا ، وَلَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا رَفَعَهُ غَيْرَ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ .
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wore a shirt, he would start from the right side. © Imam Tirmidhi says:
Several people have narrated this hadith with the chain «شعبة عن أبي هريرة» as a mawquf narration; apart from ‘Abdus-Samad bin ‘Abdul-Warith, who narrated it from Shu‘bah, we do not know of anyone who has narrated it as a marfu‘ narration.

➊ Benefit:
Although this narration is weak in its chain of transmission, its meaning is authentic, as established by other authentic narrations. It is proven that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam preferred and loved to begin every good deed with the right side. He himself acted upon this and also commanded the ummah to begin from the right side.
