Hadith 1733

Abu Burdah says that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) brought out a woolen cloak and a coarse lower garment before us and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed away in these two garments. Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- The hadith of Aisha is Hasan Sahih,
2- In this chapter, hadiths have also been narrated from Ali and Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Brief Explanation
1؎ : The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made this supplication that «اللهم أحيني مسكينا وأمتني مسكينا» "O Allah, grant me the life of a poor person (miskin) and cause me to die in that state." Allah accepted this supplication of his, thus his death occurred in the two simple garments mentioned in the hadith. It is a point of reflection as to the level of asceticism (zuhd) he attained, and how distant he remained from worldly wealth and possessions.

Explanation:
1:
The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made this supplication: (Allahumma ahyini miskeenan wa amitni miskeenan) (O Allah, grant me the life of a poor person and cause me to die in the state of a poor person). Allah accepted this supplication of his, and thus, as mentioned in the hadith, he passed away clothed in two ordinary garments.
It is a point worthy of reflection as to the level of asceticism (zuhd) he attained,
and how distant he remained from worldly wealth and possessions.
