Hadith 1710

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نَهَى عَنِ الْوَسْمِ فِي الْوَجْهِ وَالضَّرْبِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade striking the face and branding it. © Imam Tirmidhi says: This hadith is Hasan Sahih.

Benefits and Issues:

The face is an honorable part of the body.
It is prohibited to strike the face, whether of a human or an animal.


The cursing (la'nat) of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was not by his own will, but rather was based on divine inspiration (ilham ilahi).
