Hadith 1651

Narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A morning or an evening spent in the path of jihad is better than the whole world and whatever is in it, and a place in Paradise as much as a bow or as much as the space covered by one's hand is better than the world and whatever is in it 1, and if a woman from among the women of Paradise were to appear to the earth, everything between the heavens and the earth would be illuminated and filled with fragrance, and the scarf on her head is better than the world and whatever is in it." © Imam Tirmidhi says:
This hadith is sahih.

Explanation:
1:
That is, if someone acquires the world and all that it contains,
and then spends it in obedience to Allah to attain the pleasure of the Lord,
the reward he will receive for this spending will still be far less than the reward of the one who strives (mujahid) in the path of Allah (fi sabilillah).

Hadith Commentary:
Some irreligious atheists raise objections regarding the light and fragrance of the houris; the answer to this is that Paradise cannot be compared to this world, nor is the life of Paradise like the life of this world.
There are many things that we cannot see in this world, but in the Hereafter we will see them; a person can never bear even the slightest punishment of Hell in this world, but in the Hereafter, a person will be given such strength that he will be able to endure the punishments of Hell and yet remain alive.
In short, those who compare matters of the Hereafter to worldly conditions are themselves deprived of understanding and insight.

Hadith Commentary:

All the hadiths narrated in the books of hadith regarding the attributes of the houris indicate that the houris of Paradise are extremely beautiful and pure.
They are free from filth, harshness of temperament, bad character, and impatience, unlike the women of this world.

Some atheists deny the attributes of the houris, claiming that such things are rationally impossible.
They should know that Paradise cannot be analogized to this world, nor is the life of Paradise like the life of this world.
There are many things we cannot see in this world, but in the Hereafter our eyes will be capable of seeing them.
In short, those who analogize matters of the Hereafter to worldly conditions are themselves deprived of understanding, insight, and intellect.

Hadith Commentary:
In another narration, it is stated that the light of the sun and the moon will become dim.
In yet another narration, it is mentioned that in front of her veil, the light of the sun will become as dim as the light of a lamp becomes in front of the sun.
If she were to show her palm, all of creation would become enamored with her beauty.
Some atheists have raised the objection regarding such ahadith that if the light of a houri is greater than that of the sun, or if she is so fragrant that her scent reaches from the earth to the heavens, then how will the people of Paradise be able to approach her, and how will they be able to bear such fragrance and light?
The answer to this is that in Paradise, our lives, strength, and nature will be of such a kind that we will be able to bear all these things.
Just as in other verses and ahadith, such punishments of the people of Hell have been described that if even a tenth of them were inflicted in this world, a person would immediately die, but the people of Hell will be able to bear those punishments and remain alive.
In any case, to compare the conditions of the Hereafter with those of this world and to find every matter improbable is clear ignorance.
The Haritha mentioned in the narration refers to Haritha ibn Suraqah ibn Harith ibn ‘Adi.
His mother’s name was Rubayyi‘ bint Nadr.

Hadith Commentary:
This refers to Harithah bin Suraqah al-Ansari radi Allahu anhu.
His mother’s name was Rabee’ bint Nadr radi Allahu anha, who was the paternal aunt of Anas radi Allahu anhu.
Harithah radi Allahu anhu was martyred in the Battle of Badr by an arrow that came from an unknown direction, so his mother’s maternal affection became distressed, wondering whether her son was truly a martyr or not, and fearing that perhaps he had died from the arrow of a fellow Muslim. For this reason, she presented herself before the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and made her request.
When she was reassured, she returned happily.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: It is not possible for anyone to acquire the entirety of the world and all that it contains in this life—its positions and ranks, its wealth and riches, its mansions and bungalows, every kind of comfort and convenience of the world are distributed among all people. However, if a believer, with sincerity of intention, dedicates any portion of his morning or evening time in the path of Allah, then this is better for him than the world and all that it contains. Even if one were to spend the world and all that it contains, he still could not attain such reward and merit.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The hardships faced in the path of jihad will be a cause of honor on the Day of Resurrection.

➋ The musk corresponding to the dust will distinguish the warriors (mujahideen) from others on the Day of Resurrection, so that all the people in the field of gathering (mahshar) will know that this person is a mujahid.
