Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Goodness is tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection. Horses are of three kinds: one horse is a source of reward for a man, one is a means of covering (his honor and dignity), and one is a source of sin for a man. The man for whom the horse is a source of reward is the one who keeps it for jihad and prepares it for that purpose. This horse is a source of reward for that person; whatever (food) enters its belly, Allah, the Exalted, writes reward for him." There is a story mentioned in this hadith. © Imam Tirmidhi says:

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Taking care of anything prepared for the purpose of jihad is a cause of reward.

➋ The petrol used in vehicles employed for jihad and the expenses incurred on their repair are all recorded among good deeds.

➌ By analogy with the dung and urine of horses, it can be said that the smoke emitted from vehicles used for jihad will also be placed in the scale of good deeds.

➍ It is permissible to keep a personal vehicle for one's legitimate needs, but its right also includes that a poor and needy person should be transported to his destination free of charge, and the small needs of neighbors and relatives should be fulfilled.

➎ Any item of necessity which is considered a symbol of wealth in society—if it is acquired merely for the sake of showing off and its display is done unnecessarily—this is a major sin.
