Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The deeds of every deceased person are cut off except for the one who dies guarding the frontier in the way of Allah; his deeds will continue to increase until the Day of Resurrection, and he will be safe from the trial of the grave. I also heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: The true Mujahid is the one who strives against his own self." 1. © Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- The hadith of Fadala is Hasan Sahih,
2- In this chapter, there are also ahadith from Uqbah bin Amir and Jabir (may Allah be pleased with them both).

That is, the commanding self (nafs al-ammara) which incites a person towards evil,
he suppresses it,
does not become a follower of the desires of the self, and whatever difficulties and obstacles arise in obedience to Allah,
he endures them with patience,
this is the greater jihad (jihad al-akbar).

Benefits and Issues:
This virtue is for standing guard in the face of the enemy.
So the person who grapples with the disbelievers,
and is killed or kills (in battle),
his ranks will be even higher.
The Noble Qur’an has encouraged this action, saying:
(O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful) ( 3:200).
“O you who believe! Be patient,
remain steadfast,
stand firm at your posts,
and fear Allah,
so that you may succeed.”
Works similar to jihad (fighting), such as propagating tawhid (monotheism) and the Sunnah and refuting shirk (polytheism) and bid‘ah (innovation) in difficult circumstances—whether through teaching, writing, or lecturing—should also be expected,
that according to one’s intention, this too is a great ribat (stationing/guarding) and murabatah (standing guard).
Thus, teachers, preachers, and authors are stationed at the intellectual frontiers of the fortress of Islam as long as their legacies remain.
