´Narrated Muhammad bin 'Ali bin Al-Husain:` That Ali bin Abi Talib said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had the 'Aqiqah for Al-Hasan with one sheep, and said: 'O Fatimah! Shave his head and give the weight of his hair in silver as charity.'" He said: "So I weighed it, and it was the weight of a Dirham or a bit of a Dirham."
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
This hadith is evidence that the hair of a newborn’s head should be weighed and charity given in silver equal to its weight.
Note:
(There is a discontinuity in the chain between “Muhammad bin Ali Abu Ja‘far al-Sadiq” and “Ali radi Allahu anhu,” but the narration of al-Hakim (4/237) is connected. Furthermore, there are supporting narrations which, by strengthening it, render the hadith hasan li-ghayrihi.)
