1؎: That is, the authenticity of this hadith is established only from the Musnad of Samurah radi Allahu anhu; Dumrah, by narrating it from the Musnad of Ibn ‘Umar, has fallen into error.
Narrated Samurah: The Prophet ﷺ said: (The narrator Musa said in another place: From Samurah ibn Jundub as presumed by Hammad): If anyone gets possession of a relative who is within the prohibited degrees, that person becomes free. Abu Dawud said: A similar tradition has also been transmitted by Samurah from the Prophet ﷺ through a different chain. Abu Dawud said: Only Hammad bin Salamah has transmitted this tradition and he had doubt in it.

Benefits and Issues: ➊ There is a difference of opinion among the hadith scholars regarding the establishment of Hasan al-Basri’s hearing (sama‘) from Samurah ibn Jundub (radi Allahu anhu). However, this hadith is hasan (good), and according to some, sahih (authentic).
➋ The phrase “of a womb-relative who is a mahram” (dha rahimin mahramin) here refers to a deceased father, grandfather, and offspring and their descendants. As soon as ownership is established over them, they will automatically become free. However, there is a difference of opinion regarding other relatives.

Samurah bin Jundub (RAA) narrated that The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever obtains possession of a relative, who is next of kin, that person becomes free.” Related by Ahmad and the four Imams. Some scholars are of the opinion that it is Mawquf (not connected to the Prophet.)
