Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When you see a person buying or selling in the mosque, say: May Allah not grant profit in your trade. And when you see a person searching for a lost item in the mosque (announcing it), say: May Allah not return your item to you." __REF_N__ Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- The hadith of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) is Hasan Gharib,
2- Some people of knowledge act upon this, they consider buying and selling in the mosque to be impermissible. This is also the opinion of Ahmad and Ishaq bin Rahwayh,
3- Some people of knowledge have permitted buying and selling in this matter. __XREF_N__

Explanation & Benefits

Explanation:
1:
Those people say that the prohibition mentioned in the hadith is a prohibition of dislike (tanzihi), not of strict prohibition (tahrimi),
that is, it is better not to sell,
but this is a mere interpretation.
When there is an explicit prohibition in an authentic hadith, then while refraining from buying and selling in the mosques, the distinction between the marketplace and the mosques should be maintained.
The previous nations were destroyed due to their disobedience to the commands of their prophets (alayhim as-salatu was-salam) and their erroneous interpretations.

Lexical Explanation:
«يَبْتَاعُ» «يَشْتَرِي» means to buy.
«لَا أَرْبَحَ اللَّهُ تِجَارَتَكَ» means: May Allah not make your trade profitable.
Benefits and Issues:
➊ This hadith establishes the prohibition of buying and selling in mosques.
➋ The purpose of this is to prevent mosques from becoming commercial marketplaces. Mosques are constructed solely for the worship of Allah; if trade is also initiated within them, they will lose their intended purpose of construction.
➌ Mosques should be reserved exclusively for the remembrance of Allah.
