´Aishah said:` "Whoever narrated to you that the Prophet would urinate while standing; then do not believe him. He would not urinate except while squatting." [He said:] There are narrations on this topic from Umar, Buraidah, [and Abdur-Rahman bin Hasanah].
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
1:
The claim of Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha radi Allahu anha is according to her own knowledge. Otherwise, when necessary, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did urinate while standing, as is coming in the next hadith. However, his blessed habit was generally to urinate while sitting, and there was never any need for him to urinate standing in the house.
2:
That is, the marfu’ narration of Abdul Karim that (the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam forbade urinating while standing) is weak, whereas the mawquf narration of Ubaydullah al-‘Umari is authentic.
3:
That is, urinating while standing is not forbidden (haram), but it is discouraged (makruh).
4:
The difference between both (marfu’ and mawquf) hadiths is as follows: The marfu’ means that since the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam forbade Umar radi Allahu anhu, he never urinated while standing after that. The mawquf narration means that Umar radi Allahu anhu is stating his own habit, that after accepting Islam, he never urinated while standing.
