Hadith 1040

´Abu Hurairah narrated that:` The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever performs the funeral prayer then he will get a reward equal to a Qirat. Whoever follows it until it is buried then he will get a reward equal to two Qirat, one of them, or the least of them, is similar to Uhud (mountain)." This was mentioned to Ibn Umar, so he sent a message to Aishah to ask her about that, and she said: "Abu Hurairah has told the truth." So Ibn Umar said: "We have missed many Qirat."

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: They did not consider Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma and Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu to be suspect. Their thought was: how is it that we did not come to know of such a great reward for such a simple deed? Perhaps Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu made a mistake or forgot something. Therefore, when Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu learned of this statement of Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma, he himself took him to Aisha radi Allahu anha and had him hear it directly from her. And Umar radi Allahu anhu had to admit: (You were the one who kept the closest company with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and you are the most knowledgeable among us regarding his hadith.) You spent more time with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam than us, and you know more of his hadith than we do.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues:
From this hadith, it is understood that the "maqsoorah" of the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) refers to a small room inside the mosque in which the governor or his entourage would stand, and Khabbab (radi Allahu ta'ala anhu) was its administrator.
There was complete trust in the vastness, comprehensiveness, and perfection of the knowledge of Umm al-Mu'minin, Sayyidah Aisha (radi Allahu ta'ala anha).
Therefore, if they had any doubt regarding an issue or a hadith, they would immediately refer to her and satisfy themselves.

To participate in a funeral, one should go to the house of the deceased so that the full reward can be attained.

Benefits and Issues:
In this world, a qirat is a small measure of weight—
that is, 2.125 or 2.475 grams.
But due to the blessing of faith, piety, and fulfilling the right of one’s Muslim brother, Allah ‘azza wa jall will grant this deed a reward equal to mountains.
And for this to happen is not impossible.
And every person of faith should be eager for such righteous deeds.

Benefit:
In this hadith, the reward for participating in the funeral prayer is mentioned. By way of benefit, it is submitted that some people join the funeral procession along the way, and some arrive at the cemetery beforehand, whereas the reward of a qirat will be given to the person who goes with the funeral from the deceased’s house; this clarification is found in Sahih Muslim (945).

May Allah, the Exalted, grant our respected teacher, Shaykh Hafiz Muhammad Sharif rahimahullah, the best of rewards. He exerted great effort upon this humble one at Markaz at-Tarbiyah al-Islamiyyah. During teaching, he had this addition written, and at that time he referenced So may Allah reward him with goodness.
