´Aishah narrated that:` The Prophet said: "No one among the Muslim dies, and Salat is performed for him by a community of Muslims reaching one hundred, and they intercede (supplicate) for him, except that their intercession for him is accepted." In his narration, 'Ali bin Hujr said: "One hundred or more than that."

From this, the virtue of having a large number of people in the funeral prayer (salat al-janazah) is established.
In one narration of Muslim, forty Muslim men are mentioned,
and in some narrations, three rows are mentioned.
These hadiths have been reconciled in such a way that they were stated in response to the questions of different questioners on different occasions.
It is also possible that at first, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was informed about the intercession being accepted for a certain number of people, then for forty, and then for three rows—even if those three rows are less than forty.
This is Allah’s grace and favor upon His servants.
