Hadith 4029
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: نا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، قَالَ: نا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ، يَقُولُ: جَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الرُّمَاةِ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ، وَكَانُوا خَمْسِينَ رَجُلًا، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: «إِنْ رَأَيْتُمُونَا تَخْطَفُنَا الطَّيْرُ فَلَا تَبْرَحُوا مِنْ مَكَانِكُمْ حَتَّى أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ، وَإِنْ رَأَيْتُمُونَا هَزَمْنَا الْقَوْمَ وَأَوْطَأْنَاهُمْ، فَلَا تَبْرَحُوا حَتَّى أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ» قَالَ: فَهَزَمَهُمُ اللَّهُ، فَأَنَا وَاللَّهِ رَأَيْتُ النِّسَاءَ يَشْتَدِدْنَ عَلَى الْجَبَلِ، قَدْ بَدَتْ خَلَاخِلُهُنَّ وَأَسْوُقُهُنَّ رَافِعَاتٍ ثِيَابَهُنَّ، فَقَالَ أَصْحَابُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ: الْغَنِيمَةَ أَيْ قَوْمُ الْغَنِيمَةَ، ظَهَرَ أَصْحَابُكُمْ فَمَا تَنْتَظِرُونَ؟ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ: أَنَسِيتُمْ مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالُوا: إِنَّا وَاللَّهِ لَنَأْتِيَنَّ النَّاسَ فَلَنُصِيبَنَّ مِنَ الْغَنِيمَةِ، فَلَمَّا أَتَوْهُمْ صُرِفَتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ، فَانْقَلَبُوا مُنْهَزِمِينَ، فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدْعُوهُمْ فِي أُخْرَاهُمْ، فَلَمْ يَبْقَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا اثْنَا عَشَرَ رَجُلًا، فَأَصَابُوا مِنَّا سَبْعِينَ رَجُلًا، وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُهُ أَصَابُوا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ أَرْبَعِينَ وَمِائَةَ رَجُلٍ، سَبْعِينَ أَسِيرًا، وَسَبْعِينَ قَتِيلًا، فَقَالَ أَبُو سُفْيَانَ: أَفِي الْقَوْمِ مُحَمَّدٌ؟ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، فَنَهَاهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُجِيبُوهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَفِي الْقَوْمِ ابْنُ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ؟ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَفِي الْقَوْمِ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ؟ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، فَرَجَعَ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ: أَمَّا هَؤُلَاءِ فَقَدْ قُتِلُوا، فَمَا مَلَكَ عُمَرُ نَفْسَهُ، قَالَ: كَذَبْتَ يَا عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ الَّذِينَ عَدَدْتَ لَأَحْيَاءٌ، وَقَدْ بَقَّى اللَّهُ لَكَ مَا يَسُوءُكَ، فَقَالَ: يَوْمٌ بِيَوْمِ بَدْرٍ، وَالْحَرْبُ سِجَالٌ، إِنَّكُمْ سَتَجِدُونَ فِي الْقَوْمِ مُثْلَةً لَمْ آمُرْ بِهَا وَلَمْ تَسُؤْنِي، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ يَرْتَجِزُ أُعْلُ هُبَلُ، أُعْلُ هُبَلُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَلَا تُجِيبُوهُ؟» فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا نَقُولُ؟ قَالَ: " قُولُوا: اللَّهُ أَعْلَى وَأَجَلُّ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ لَنَا الْعُزَّى، وَلَا عُزَّى لَكُمْ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَلَا تُجِيبُوهُ؟» قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا نَقُولُ؟ قَالَ: «قُولُوا اللَّهُ مَوْلَانَا، وَلَا مَوْلَى لَكُمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: On the day of the Battle of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Jubair (may Allah be pleased with him) over the archers, and they were fifty men. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: “If you see that birds are snatching us away, do not leave your place until I send you a message. And if you see that we have defeated the people and are trampling them, still do not leave your place until I send you a message.” Then Allah defeated the disbelievers. I myself saw with my own eyes the women running on the mountain, their anklets and shins were exposed, and they were lifting their clothes and running. Seeing this, the companions of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Jubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “People! Booty! Booty! Your companions have prevailed, what are you waiting for now?” Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Jubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Have you forgotten what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said?” They said: “By Allah, we will surely go and obtain the booty.” So when they descended, they were turned back and fled in defeat. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was calling them from behind, and only twelve men remained with him. The disbelievers martyred seventy men from among us, while on the day of Badr, the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had harmed one hundred and forty of the disbelievers, capturing seventy and killing seventy. Abu Sufyan called out: “Is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) among you?” three times. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the companions not to answer. Then he said: “Is Abu Bakr present?” three times. Then he said: “Is Umar bin Khattab present?” three times. When he received no answer, he returned to his companions and said: “All of them have been killed.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) could not control his emotions and called out: “You are lying, O enemy of Allah! Those whom you have named are all alive, and Allah has kept for you that which will grieve you.” Abu Sufyan said: “Today is in exchange for the day of Badr, and war alternates (between victory and defeat). You will find mutilation among your slain; I did not order it, but I do not regret it either.” Then he began to shout: “Exalt Hubal, exalt Hubal!” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Will you not answer him?” The companions said: “O Messenger of Allah! What should we say?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Say: Allah is the Highest and the Greatest.” Then Abu Sufyan said: “We have al-‘Uzza and you do not.” So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Will you not answer him?” The companions said: “O Messenger of Allah! What should we say?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Say: Allah is our Protector and you have no protector.”
Hadith 4030
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ: أنا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيُّ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " يَأْتِي عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ يَغْزُو فِيهِ فِئَامٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ: أَفِيكُمْ مَنْ صَحِبَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ فَيُقَالُ: نَعَمْ، فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ، ثُمَّ يَأْتِي عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ فَيَغْزُو فِيهِ فِئَامٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ: أَفِيكُمْ مَنْ صَحِبَ أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ فَيُقَالُ: نَعَمْ، فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ "
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A time will come when a group will wage jihad, and it will be asked of them: 'Is there anyone among you who has accompanied the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?' If they reply: 'Yes,' then victory will be granted to them. Then a time will come when there will be those in the group who have accompanied the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and victory will also be granted to them."
Hadith 4031
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: كَانَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ تَقُولُ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ: ¤ [البحر الرجز] ¤ نَحْنُ الَّذِينَ بَايَعْنَا مُحَمَّدَا ... عَلَى الْجِهَادِ مَا بَقِينَا أَبَدَا ¤ فَأَجَابَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ¤ «لَا عَيْشَ إِلَّا عَيْشُ الْآخِرَةْ، ... فَأَكْرِمِ الْأَنْصَارَ وَالْمُهَاجِرَةْ» ¤
On the day of the Battle of the Trench, the Ansar were reciting these verses: "We are those who pledged allegiance to Muhammad (peace be upon him) for jihad, and as long as we are alive, we will continue to strive in jihad." In response, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would say: "True life is only the life of the Hereafter, so O Allah! Honor the Ansar and the Muhajirin."
Hadith 4032
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ، سَمِعَ بُرَيْدَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيَّ مِنْ وَرَاءِ نَهْرِ بَلْخٍ وَهُوَ عَلَى فَرَسٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: «لَا عَيْشَ إِلَّا طِرَادُ الْخَيْلِ الْخَيْلَ»
Sayyiduna Buraidah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) was riding a horse across the river of Balkh and saying: "Life is nothing but a horse race!"
Hadith 4033
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، قَالَا: «أَوَّلُ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ الْخَنْدَقَ عَلَى عَسْكَرِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ»
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was the first person who established the practice of digging a trench around the army.
Hadith 4034
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ خُصَيْفَةَ، عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ظَاهَرَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ بَيْنَ دِرْعَيْنِ، وَقَالَ مَرَّةً: لَبِسَ - كَمَا قَالَ سُفْيَانُ - دِرْعَيْنِ "
On the day of the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet (ﷺ) wore two coats of armor, or as Sufyan said: he donned two coats of armor.
Hadith 4035
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ جَعْدَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ: لَوْلَا ثَلَاثٌ لَسَرَّنِي أَنْ أَكُونَ قَدْ مُتُّ: لَوْلَا أَنْ أَضَعَ جَبِينِي لِلَّهِ، وَأُجَالِسَ أَقْوَامًا يَتَلَقَّطُونَ طَيِّبَ الْكَلَامِ كَمَا يُتَلَقَّطُ طَيِّبُ الثَّمَرِ، وَالسَّيْرُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ "
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If it were not for three things, I would have wished that I had died: bowing my forehead to Allah, sitting in the gathering of people who collect good words, and traveling in the path of Allah."
Hadith 4036
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الزُّهْرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ جَلَسَ نَاسٌ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ فِي جَبَلِ بَدْرٍ يَقُولُونَ حَيْثُمَا كَانَتِ الدَّبْرَةُ كُنَّا مَعَ أَهْلِهَا، فَلَمَّا أَعَزَّ اللَّهُ نَصْرَ رَسُولِهِ جَاءُوهُ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ أَمْرَهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: أَيْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ سَمِعْنَا شَيْئًا يَهْبِطُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ، وَسَمِعْنَا حَمْحَمَةَ الْخَيْلِ، وَقَرْعَ الْأَدَاةِ، وَسَمِعْنَا شَيْئًا يُقَالُ لَهُ: أَقْدِمْ حَيْزُومُ قَالَ: «ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ»
On the day of Badr, some Arabs were sitting on a mountain saying: "We are with the one who prevails." When Allah granted victory to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), they came and said: "O Messenger of Allah! We heard something descending from the sky, the neighing of horses and the clanking of equipment, and we heard a voice: 'Advance, Haizum!'" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "That was our master Jibreel (Gabriel), peace be upon him."
Hadith 4037
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «سَوِّمُوا فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ قَدْ سَوَّمَتْ»
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Mark a sign, for indeed the angels also marked a sign."
Hadith 4038
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ أَبَا يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ " نُصِرْتُ بِالرُّعْبِ عَلَى الْعَدُوِّ، وَأُوتِيتُ جَوَامِعَ الْكَلِمِ، قَالَ: وَبَيْنَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ أُوتِيتُ بِمَفَاتِيحِ خَزَائِنِ الْأَرْضِ فَوُضِعَتْ فِي يَدِي "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been helped against the enemy through awe, and I have been given concise words, and while I was sleeping, the keys to the treasures of the earth were brought to me and placed in my hand."
Hadith 4039
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ، شَاعِرٍ كَانَ بِمَكَّةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمَ الطَّائِفِ قَالَ: «إِنَّا قَافِلُونَ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ» فَقَالَ النَّاسُ: قَبْلَ أَنْ نَفْتَحَهَا؟ قَالَ: فَاغْدُوا عَلَى الْقِتَالِ، فَغَدَوْا وَأَصَابَتْهُمْ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّا قَافِلُونَ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، فَسُّرُوا بِذَلِكَ فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of the Battle of Ta’if: “If Allah wills, tomorrow we will return.” So the people said: “Will we return without conquering Ta’if?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Then go out for battle in the morning!” So they went out for battle in the morning and suffered hardship. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If Allah wills, tomorrow we will return.” So the people became happy, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled.
Hadith 4040
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، فِي قَوْلِهِ {مُسَوِّمِينَ} [آل عمران: 125] قَالَ: «مُعَلَّمِينَ بِالصُّوفِ الْأَبْيَضِ»
It is narrated from Hazrat Dhahhak (may Allah have mercy on him) that in the explanation of Allah Almighty’s statement «مُسَوِّمِينَ» [آل عمران: 125], he said: “What is meant by this is: (angels) marked with white wool.”
Hadith 4041
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، قَالَ: لَمَّا حَاصَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَهْلَ الطَّائِفِ أَشْرَفَتِ امْرَأَةٌ فَكَشَفَتْ عَنْ قُبُلِهَا، فَقَالَتْ: هَا دُونَكُمْ فَارْمُوا، فَرَمَاهَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَمَا أَخْطَأَ ذَلِكَ مِنْهَا "
When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) besieged the people of Ta’if, a woman came out from behind the fortress and exposed her private parts, saying: “Here you go, strike!” So a Muslim shot an arrow at her, and the arrow did not miss her private parts.
Hadith 4042
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، مِثْلَهُ قَالَ فَقَطَّرَهَا
This narration has been reported through another chain, and the words are: "So he wounded him."
Hadith 4043
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدٍ، قَالَ غَزَا نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ فَقَالَ: «لَا تَغْزُوا مَعَ رَجُلٍ بَنَى بُنْيَانًا لَمْ يُتِمَّهُ، أَوْ زَرَعَ زَرْعًا لَمْ يَحْصُدْهُ، أَوْ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً لَمْ يَدْخُلْ بِهَا»
One of the prophets among the prophets said at the time of battle: "Do not go forth with a man who has built a building but has not yet completed it, or who has sown a crop but has not yet harvested it, or who has married a woman but has not yet consummated with her."
Hadith 4044
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا حُدَيْجُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: نا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ، يَقُولُ: «غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ غَزْوَةً» وَسَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ يَقُولُ: «غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَبْعَ عَشْرَةَ غَزْوَةً»
Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I participated in fifteen battles with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).” And Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I participated in seventeen battles with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”
Hadith 4045
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أنا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ هَمَّتَا {أَنْ تَفْشَلَا وَاللَّهُ وَلِيُّهُمَا} [آل عمران: 122] «بَنُو سَلِمَةَ، وَبَنُو حَارِثَةَ»
It is narrated from Sa'id bin Abi Hilal (may Allah have mercy on him) that he received the information that «طَائِفَتَانِ» [آل عمران: 122] that is, the two groups who intended to retreat were "Banu Salamah" and "Banu Harithah."
Hadith 4046
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ: " فِينَا نَزَلَتْ فِي بَنِي حَارِثَةَ، وَبَنِي سَلَمَةَ {إِذْ هَمَّتْ طَائِفَتَانِ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ تَفْشَلَا وَاللَّهُ وَلِيُّهُمَا} [آل عمران: 122] مَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنَّهَا لَمْ تَنْزِلْ "
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This verse was revealed about us (i.e., Banu Haritha and Banu Salama): «إِذْ هَمَّتْ طَائِفَتَانِ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ تَفْشَلَا وَاللَّهُ وَلِيُّهُمَا» [آل عمران: 122] and I am pleased that this verse was revealed."
Hadith 4047
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ، أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَوَّجَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتَ عُمَيْسٍ وَهُمْ تَحْتَ الرَّايَاتِ "
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) married Sayyidah Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) while they were under the banners.
Hadith 4048
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ، وَتَكَاثُرِهِمْ وَنَظَرَ إِلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَاسْتَقَلَّهُمْ، فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَقَامَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ: «اللَّهُمَّ لَا تُوَدِّعْ مِنِّي، اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَخْذُلْنِي، اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَتِرْنِي، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْشُدُكَ مَا وَعَدْتَنِي، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ يَهْزِمْ هَذَا الْجَمْعُ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ هَذَا الْجَمْعَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ لَا تُعْبَدُ أَبَدًا» فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: أَلْحَفْتَ وَاللَّهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي، وَاللَّهِ لَا يَتَوَدَّعُ مِنْكَ، وَلَا يَخْذُلُكَ، وَلَا يَتِرُكَ، وَلَيَنْصُرَنَّكَ عَلَى عَدُوِّكَ كَمَا وَعَدَكَ، فَانْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَسْرُورًا، وَقَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ جِبْرِيلَ مُعْتَجِرًا مُتَدَلِّيًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مُعْتَجِرًا بِعُجْرَةِ الْقِتَالِ، عَلَى أَسْنَانِهِ قَتَرَةُ الْغُبَارِ، فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ النَّصْرُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubaydullah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when, on the day of Badr, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the multitude of the polytheists and the small number of the Muslims, he performed two units of prayer, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was standing on his right side. Then, in the prayer, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Do not leave me alone. O Allah! Do not disgrace me. O Allah! Do not deprive me. O Allah! I ask You for the promise which You made to me. O Allah! If this army of the polytheists defeats this army of the Muslims, then Your worship will never be established again." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "May my parents be sacrificed for you! By Allah, Allah will never leave you, nor disgrace you, nor deprive you, and He will surely grant you victory over your enemy as He has promised." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned happily and said: "I saw Jibreel (peace be upon him) descending from the sky, wrapped in battle attire with dust on his teeth, and then I realized that this is help (from Allah)."
Hadith 4049
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ، أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَمَا فَرَغَ مِنْ قِتَالِ بَدْرٍ عَلَى فَرَسٍ حَمْرَاءَ، مَعْقُودَ النَّاصِيَةِ قَدْ عَصَبَ ثَنِيَّتَهُ الْغُبَارُ، عَلَيْهِ دِرْعُهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَعَثَنِي إِلَيْكَ، وَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ لَا أُفَارِقَ حَتَّى تَرْضَى، أَفَرَضِيتَ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Atiyyah bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) that when the Battle of Badr was over, Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) riding a red horse, whose forelock hair was braided, dust had covered both his temples, and he was wearing armor. He said: "O Muhammad! Allah has sent me to you and has commanded me not to leave you until you are pleased. Are you pleased?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes."
Hadith 4050
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي الْيَمَانِ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ لُحَيٍّ الْهَوْزَنِيِّ، قَالَ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَقَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: «تَعَادُّوا» فَوَجَدَهُمْ ثَلَاثَمِائَةٍ وَأَرْبَعَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ: «تَعَادُّوا» فَتَعَادُّوا مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ مَرَّتَيْنِ، فَأَقْبَلَ رَجُلٌ وَهُمْ يَتَعَادُّونَ عَلَى بَكْرٍ لَهُ ضَعِيفٍ، فَتَمَّتِ الْعِدَّةُ ثَلَاثَمِائَةٍ وَخَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا، فَقَالَ: «أَنْتُمُ الْيَوْمَ عَلَى عِدَّةِ النَّبِيِّينَ، وَعِدَّةِ أَصْحَابِ طَالُوتَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Amir bin ‘Abdullah bin Luhay al-Huzani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on the day of Badr and said to his companions: “Count your numbers.” So they turned out to be three hundred and fourteen. Then he said again: “Count your numbers.” So again, the same number came up. Then a man came on his weak camel, so the number became three hundred and fifteen. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Today you are upon the number of the Prophets and the companions of Talut.”
Hadith 4051
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ اسْتَحْيَا الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ عَوْرَاتِ إِخْوَانِهِمْ وَأَلْقَوْهُمْ فِي قَلِيبٍ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَامَ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَقَالَ: «أَيْ فُلَانُ أَيْ فُلَانُ أَلَمْ تَجِدُوا اللَّهَ مَلِيًّا بِمَا وَعَدَكُمْ؟ أَيْ فُلَانُ أَيْ فُلَانُ - يُسَمِّيهِمْ بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ - أَلَمْ تَجِدُوا اللَّهَ مَلِيًّا بِمَا وَعَدَكُمْ؟» قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَوَ يَسْمَعُونَ؟ قَالَ: «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ كَمَا تَسْمَعُونَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayd bin Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Badr, out of a sense of covering their brothers, the Muslims placed them in a well. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came and stood over them and said: "O so-and-so! O so-and-so! Did you not find Allah true to His promise? O so-and-so! O so-and-so!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) would call them by their names, then said: "Did you not find Allah true to His promise?" The companions said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), do they hear?" He said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul! They hear just as you hear."
Hadith 4052
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَتَلَ أُبَيَّ بْنَ خَلَفٍ بِيَدِهِ، وَقَالَ: «اشْتَدَّ غَضَبُ اللَّهِ عَلَى رَجُلٍ قَتَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، وَاشْتَدَّ غَضَبُ اللَّهِ عَلَى قَوْمٍ أَدْمَوْا وَجْهَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) killed Ubayy bin Khalaf with his own hand and said: "The wrath of Allah is severe upon the person whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) killed with his own hand in the path of Allah, and the wrath of Allah is also severe upon those who wounded the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the path of Allah."
Hadith 4053
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ: «مَنْ يَأْخُذُ هَذَا السَّيْفَ بِحَقِّهِ؟» فَقَالَ أَبُو دُجَانَةَ: أَنَا، فَجَاءَ بِهِ قَدِ انْثَنَى قَالَ: أَعْطَيْتَهُ حَقَّهُ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of Uhud: "Who will take this sword with its due right?" So Sayyiduna Abu Dujanah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I will." Then he came while the sword had become bent, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did you fulfill its right?" He said: "Yes."
Hadith 4054
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْأَلْهَانِيِّ، عَنْ أَشْيَاخِهِ قَالَ: ذُكِرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ عَبْدِي كُلَّ عَبْدِي الَّذِي يَذْكُرُنِي، وَإِنْ كَانَ مُكَافِئًا قِرْنَهُ» فَسَمِعَهَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَعَقَدَ عَلَيْهَا حَتَّى إِذَا قَدِمَ النَّاسُ الشَّامَ انْبَعَثَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ وَهُمْ رِجَالٌ عَلَى أَقْدَامِهِمْ، فَأَبْطَأَ عَنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يُصَلِّي، وَهَبَطَ إِلَيْهِ عِلْجٌ مِنَ الرُّومِ عَلَى كَوْدَنٍ شَاكِ السِّلَاحِ , يُرِيدُهُ، فَجَاءَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُ كَرْمٌ لَهُ سِيَاجٌ أُمُّ غَيْلَانَ الشَّوْكُ، فَرَبَطَ الْعِلْجُ فَرَسَهُ، ثُمَّ شَقَّقَ إِلَيْهِ الْكَرْمَ يَتَهَدَّدُهُ , حَتَّى إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُ إِلَّا السِّيَاجُ وَالرَّجُلُ يَذْكُرُ قَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَكَثْرَةُ ذِكْرِهِ لَمْ يَشْغَلْهُ تَهَدُّدُ عَدُوِّهِ إِيَّاهُ، يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ قَدْ ضِقْتُ بِهِ ذَرْعًا , فَاكْفِنِيهِ، فَنَظَرَ الرُّومِيُّ فُرْجَةً مِنَ السِّيَاجِ فَذَهَبَ لِيَخْرُجَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْهَا، فَنَشِبَ الشَّوْكُ بِكُمِّ يَدِهِ فَعَالَجَ طَوِيلًا لِيَتَخَلَّصَ مِنْهَا، فَذَهَبَ لِيُخَلِّصَ كُمَّهُ الْأَيْمَنَ، فَقَبَضَ الشَّوْكُ عَلَيْهِ، فَرَبَطَهُ اللَّهُ رَبْطًا، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ الْمُسْلِمُ مَضَى إِلَيْهِ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى الْعِلْجُ الْمُسْلِمَ قَدْ أَقْبَلَ إِلَيْهِ جَعَلَ يَنْخِرُ وَهُوَ فِي ذَلِكَ قَدْ أَثْبَتَهُ اللَّهُ فَلَمْ يَتَخَلَّصْ إِلَيْهِ الرَّجُلُ حَتَّى وَجَأَ نَفْسَهُ بِخِنْجَرٍ كَانَ مَعَهُ، فَوَقَعَ , فَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ الْمُسْلِمُ يَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ وَيَحْمَدُهُ وَيَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ قَتَلْتَهُ ثُمَّ سَلَبَهُ سِلَاحَهُ وَثِيَابَهُ، وَحَمَلَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى فَرَسِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Ziyad Al-Alahani (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah says: My servant, a complete servant, is the one who remembers Me, even if he is engaged in combat with his adversary.” A Muslim heard this hadith and remembered it. When the people reached Syria, he joined an expedition and was on foot. On the way, a Roman attacked him. There was a vineyard in between, whose fence was full of thorns. The Roman tied his horse and crossed the fence of the vineyard, but the Muslim continued to remember Allah until he came near the enemy. The Roman’s sleeve got entangled in the thorns and Allah stopped him. The Muslim approached and saw the Roman, who failed in his attempt to get free, until the Roman stabbed himself with a dagger and killed himself. The Muslim continued to remember Allah and express gratitude to Him, and said: “O Allah! You killed him.” Then he took his weapon and clothes, and Allah made him ride on his (the Roman’s) horse.
Hadith 4055
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا مَرْوَانُ، قَالَ: نا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ سَلْمَانُ الْفَارِسِيُّ: «لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا عَوْنُ اللَّهِ لِلضَّعِيفِ مَا غَالَوْا بِالظَّهْرِ»
Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If people knew how Allah helps the weak, they would not exaggerate the prices of riding animals."
Hadith 4056
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّهُ «رَأَى ابْنَ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ فِي بَعْضِ مَوَاطِنِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَمَعَهُ لِوَاءُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) at a place of the Muslims, and in his hand was the flag of the Muslims.
Hadith 4057
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ: «اصْطَبَحَ نَاسٌ الْخَمْرَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ثُمَّ قُتِلُوا شُهَدَاءَ مِنْ آخِرِ النَّهَارِ»
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of Uhud, some people drank alcohol in the morning, and then by the end of the day, they were martyred.
Hadith 4058
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ: «أَوَّلُ امْرَأَةٍ اسْتُشْهِدْتُ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ أُمُّ عَمَّارٍ»
It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him): The first woman to be martyred in Islam was Sayyida Umm Ammarah (may Allah be pleased with her).
Hadith 4059
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ يُخَامِرَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ، قَالَ: «لَا تَأْوُوا الْيَهُودَ؛ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ ضَرَبَ عَلَى رِقَابِهِمْ بِذُلٍّ مُقَدَّمٍ، وَأَنَّهُمْ سَبُّوا اللَّهَ سَبًّا لَمْ يَسُبَّهُ أَحَدٌ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ، دَعَوُا اللَّهَ ثَالِثَ ثَلَاثَةٍ»
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do not let the Jews stay with you, for Allah has placed a collar of humiliation on their necks forever, and they have reviled Allah in a way that none of Allah's creation has done; they said Allah is the third of three."
Hadith 4060
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ (1)، قَالَ: كَتَبَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ أَنْ « وَفِّرُوا الْأَظْفَارَ، فِي أَرْضِ الْعَدُوِّ، فَإِنَّهَا سِلَاحٌ » .
Hazrat Hakeem bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote that keep your nails safe in the enemy's land because they are also weapons.
Hadith 4061
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ: كُنَّا يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ أَلْفًا وَأَرْبَعَ مِائَةٍ، فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَنْتُمُ الْيَوْمَ خَيْرُ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ» قَالَ جَابِرٌ: لَوْ كُنْتُ أُبْصِرُ أَرَيْتُكُمْ مَوْضِعَ الشَّجَرَةِ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): We were one thousand four hundred on the day of Hudaybiyyah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Today, you are the best people on the face of the earth." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If I could see, I would show you the place of the tree."
Hadith 4062
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَنْعُمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَشْيَخَتُنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «أَطْيَبُ كَسْبِ الْمُسْلِمِ سَهْمُهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، وَصَفْقَةُ يَدِهِ، وَمَا تُعْطِيهِ أَرْضُهُ»
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Ziyad bin An'um (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that our elders told us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The purest earning of a Muslim is his arrows in the way of Allah, the trade of his own hands, and the produce of his land."
Hadith 4063
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ كَعْبًا، كَانَ يَقُولُ: «رِزْقُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ فِي أَسِنَّةِ رِمَاحِهَا، وَعِنْدَ أَزِجَّتِهَا مَا لَمْ يَزْرَعُوا، فَإِذَا زَرَعُوا كَانُوا كَالنَّاسِ، وَلَا يَزَالُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُعْطِي هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةَ حَتَّى يُعْطِيَهُمْ أَحْسَنَ مَشْيِ الدَّوَابِّ»
It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Yazid bin Jabir, may Allah have mercy on him, that Sayyiduna Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with him, used to say: "The sustenance of this Ummah is at the tips of their spears and with their bows as long as they do not engage in agriculture. When they engage in agriculture, they will become like common people, and Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will continue to grant them until He gives them the best of livestock to ride."
Hadith 4064
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: نا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: سَمِعَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، رَجُلًا يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَنْفِقُ مَالِي وَنَفْسِي فِي سَبِيلِكَ، قَالَ الْأَعْمَشُ: وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ: وَوَلَدِي، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: «أَلَا يَسْكُتُ أَحَدُكُمْ فَإِنِ ابْتُلِيَ صَبَرَ، وَإِنْ عُوفِيَ شَكَرَ»
It is narrated from Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) heard a man making this supplication: "O Allah! I spend my wealth, my life (and sometimes he would say: my children) in Your path." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Will none of you remain silent? If a trial comes, he should be patient, and if well-being is granted, he should be grateful."
Hadith 4065
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْحَرْبُ خَدْعَةً»
Narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "War is deception."
Hadith 4066
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ بُكَيْرًا، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا أَمَّرَ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسُ فِي ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ فِي أُسَامَةَ أَنَّ أُسَامَةَ حَدَثُ السِّنِّ، وَإِنْ تَقُولُوا فَقَدْ قُلْتُمْ لِأَبِيهِ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ، وَايْمُ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَخَلِيقٌ لِلْإِمْرَةِ» قَالَ بُكَيْرٌ: فَبَلَغَنِي أَنَّ عَبِيدَةَ بْنَ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ: فَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ تَكُونَ هَذِهِ إِلَى الْيَوْمِ قَالَ بُكَيْرٌ: وَسَمِعْتُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ قَالَ: " أَمَّرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُسَامَةَ عَلَى جَيْشٍ وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَحْرِقَ قَرْيَةَ يُبْنَا، فَمَضَى أَوَّلُ الْجَيْشِ وَجَعَلَ أُسَامَةُ يَتَرَدَّدُ حَتَّى قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَدَخَلَ أُسَامَةُ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَقَالَ: مَا تَأْمُرُنِي؟ فَقَالَ: «تَمْضِي عَلَى أَمْرِكَ الَّذِي أَمَرَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا أَزِيدُ فِيهِ وَلَا أَنْقُصُ مِنْهُ» فَقَالَ النَّاسُ: إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَبْعَثْ أُسَامَةَ وَمَعَهُ حَدُّ النَّاسِ فَتَرْتَدُّ هَذِهِ الْأَعْرَابُ فَتَمِيلُ عَلَى ثَقَلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: «وَاللَّهِ لَوْ أَنِّي أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ الذِّئَابَ وَالْكِلَابَ تَنْهَشُنِي بِهَا مَا رَدَدْتُ أَمْرًا أَمَرَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، امْضِ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ سِيُعِينُنَا، وَلَكِنْ إِنْ رَأَيْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ» فَقَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ أُسَامَةُ: فَخَرَجْتُ عَلَى عُمَرَ، فَقَالَ: مَا فَعَلْتَ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: سَأَلَنِي أَنْ آذَنَ لَكَ فَفَعَلْتُ، وَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَمْضِيَ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: رَحِمَكَ اللَّهُ
It is narrated from Hazrat Bukair (may Allah have mercy on him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) as commander, people objected. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You speak about Usama being young in age, and you spoke in the same way about his father. By Allah! He is worthy of leadership." Hazrat Bukair (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I was informed that Hazrat Ubaidah bin Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "I hope this decision remains in effect till today." It is narrated from Sulaiman bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) as commander over an army and ordered that the village of Yabna be burned. When the army set out, Usama delayed a little until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away. Then Usama came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "What do you command me?" He replied: "Act upon what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded you; I will neither add to it nor subtract from it." People said: "If you send Usama and take the nearby people with him, the Bedouin Arabs will become apostates and attack Madinah." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah! Even if wild beasts devour me, I will not revoke the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Go, Allah will help us. But if you wish, you may keep Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) with you." Usama said: "I went to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and gave him permission." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "May Allah have mercy on you."
Hadith 4067
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ، فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ أُنَاسًا طَعَنُوا فِي إِمْرَةِ أُسَامَةَ كَمَا طَعَنُوا فِي إِمْرَةِ أَبِيهِ مِنْ قَبْلُ، وَإِنَّهُ وَأَبُوهُ لَهَا أَهْلٌ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the pulpit and said: "Some people have criticized Usama's leadership just as they had previously criticized his father's leadership, even though both of them were worthy of it."
Hadith 4068
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا حُصَيْنٌ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: " أَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ نَزَلَ مِنْ بَرَاءَةَ إِلَى بَعْدِ الْأَرْبَعِينَ: {انْفِرُوا خِفَافًا وَثِقَالًا} [التوبة: 41] إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: {إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ} [البقرة: 184] "
Hazrat Abu Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The first verses of Surah Bara’ah, more than forty verses, were revealed from {انْفِرُوا خِفَافًا وَثِقَالًا} to {إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ}.
