Hadith 3912
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: «كُنَّا نُصِيبُ فِي الْمَغَازِي الثِّمَارَ، فَنَأْكُلُهُ وَلَا نَرْفَعُهُ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "When we found fruit during military expeditions, we would eat it and not store it."
Hadith 3913
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: «كُنَّا نُصِيبُ فِي مَغَازِينَا الْحِنْطَةَ، وَالشَّعِيرَ، وَالسَّمْنَ وَالْعَسَلَ فَنَأْكُلُهُ»
Imam Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "When we obtained wheat, barley, ghee, and honey in the battles, we would eat them."
Hadith 3914
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ سِيرِينَ عَنِ الطَّعَامِ نُصِيبُهُ فِي أَرْضِ الْعَدُوِّ، قَالَ: سَلِ الْحَسَنَ؛ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يَغْزُو، فَسَأَلْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: «كُنَّا نُصِيبُهُ، فَنَأْكُلُهُ، وَلَا نَرْفَعُهُ»
Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) said that he asked Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him), who used to go for jihad, and he informed: "We used to consume wealth but did not hoard it."
Hadith 3915
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ بَكْرَ بْنَ سَوَادَةَ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ زِيَادَ بْنَ نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَةٍ، فَكَانَ النَّفَرُ يُصِيبُونَ الْغَنَمَ الْعَظِيمَةَ، وَلَا يُصِيبُ الْآخَرُونَ إِلَّا الشَّاةَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ أَطْعَمْتُمْ إِخْوَانَكُمْ» فَرَمَيْنَا لَهُمْ بِشَاةٍ شَاةٍ، حَتَّى كَانَ الَّذِي مَعَهُمْ أَكْثَرَ مِنَ الَّذِي مَعَنَا قَالَ بَكْرٌ: وَمَا رَأَيْنَا أَحَدًا قَطُّ يَقْسِمُ الطَّعَامَ كُلَّهُ، وَلَا يُنْكِرُ أَخْذَهُ، وَلَكِنْ يُسْتَمْتَعُ بِهِ، وَلَا يُبَاعُ، فَأَمَّا غَيْرُ الطَّعَامِ مِنْ مَتَاعِ الْعَدُوِّ فَإِنَّهُ يُقَسَّمُ , قَالَ بَكْرٌ: وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ يَنْقَلِبُونَ بِالْمَشَاجِبِ، وَالْعِيدَانِ، لَا يُبَاعُ فِي قَسْمٍ لَنَا مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ
In a battle with the Prophet (ﷺ), people would find large goats, and some would get only one goat. So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "If only you would share food with your brothers." So everyone pooled their goats together until those who had little had much, but non-food wealth was distributed separately.
Hadith 3916
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ ابْنَ حَرْشَفٍ الْأَزْدِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «كُنَّا نَأْكُلُ الْجُزُرَ فِي الْغَزْوِ وَلَا نَقْسِمُهُ حَتَّى إِنْ كُنَّا لَنَرْجِعُ إِلَى رِحَالِنَا وَأَخْرِجَتُنَا مِنْهُ مُمْلَأَةٌ»
A companion (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We used to slaughter camels during a military expedition, eat the meat, but would not distribute it, until we returned with our bellies full."
Hadith 3917
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، وَقَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مُجَالِدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: هَلْ كُنْتُمْ تُخَمِّسُونَ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الطَّعَامَ؟ قَالَ: «أَصَبْنَا طَعَامًا يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ، وَكَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَجِيءُ فَيَأْخُذُ مِنْهُ مِقْدَارَ مَا يَكْفِيهِ، ثُمَّ يَنْصَرِفُ»
It was asked from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him): "Was khums (one-fifth) taken from food during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied: "We reached the food at Khaybar, so every man would take according to his need and then leave."
Hadith 3918
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: «كَانُوا يَقْتَسِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ وَالْعَلَفَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُخَمَّسَ»
Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Those people would take out the khums, then eat from it themselves, and would distribute the fodder."
Hadith 3919
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ: «كَانُوا يَأْكُلُونَ مِنَ الْعَسَلِ وَالْفَوَاكِهِ، وَيَعْلِفُونَ إِلَّا الْحِنْطَةَ؛ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَكُونُوا يَأْخُذُونَ حَتَّى يُخَمَّسَ»
Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "They would eat honey and fruit and use fodder, but they would not take wheat without extracting the khums from it."
Hadith 3920
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: كَانَ سَلْمَانُ إِذَا أَصَابَ شَاةً مِنَ الْمَغْنَمِ ذُبِحَتْ أَوْ ذَبَحُوهَا عَمَدَ إِلَى جِلْدِهَا، فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ جِرَابًا، وَإِلَى شَعْرِهَا فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ حَبْلًا، وَإِلَى لَحْمِهَا فَيُقَدِّدُهُ، فَيَنْتَفِعُ بِجِلْدِهَا، وَيَعْمِدُ إِلَى الْحَبْلِ فَيَنْظُرُ رَجُلًا مَعَهُ فَرَسٌ قَدْ صُرِعَ بِهِ فَيُعْطِيهِ، وَيَعْمِدُ إِلَى اللَّحْمِ فَيَأْكُلُهُ فِي الْأَيَّامِ، فَإِذَا سُئِلَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُ: «إِنِّي أَسْتَغْنِي بِالْقَدِيدِ فِي الْأَيَّامِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَفْسِدَهُ، ثُمَّ أَحْتَاجُ إِلَى مَا فِي أَيْدِي النَّاسِ»
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him): When Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) obtained a goat from the spoils of war, he would slaughter it or have it slaughtered, then make a bag from its skin, prepare a rope from its hair, and dry its meat to make (qadeed). He would benefit from the skin himself, give the rope to someone whose horse had fallen, and keep the meat preserved to eat during the days. When he was asked about this, he would say: "For me to get by for a few days with dried meat is better than letting it spoil and then having to stretch my hand out to people."
Hadith 3921
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ شَيْخٍ قَدِيمٍ قَدْ أَدْرَكَ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ وَأَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «كُنَّا نَغْزُو فَنُصِيبُ مِنَ الثِّمَارِ وَالْأَعْنَابِ مَا كَانَتْ ظَاهِرَةً، وَإِذَا أَدْخَلُوهَا الْبُيُوتَ لَمْ نَأْخُذْهَا إِلَّا مُثَامَنَةً»
It is narrated from an elder (may Allah have mercy on him), who had witnessed the era of Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) and the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them): He said, "When we would go out for jihad and find fruits and grapes appearing on the trees in the field, we would benefit from them. But when the fruits were stored in the houses, we would only take them by purchasing."
Hadith 3922
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ فِي الْقَوْمِ يَغْزُونَ يُصِيبُونَ الطَّعَامَ وَالْجُبْنَ، فَقَالَ: «لَهُمْ أَنْ يَأْكُلُوا، وَمَا فَضَلَ رَفَعُوهُ إِلَى الْإِمَامِ»
Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "When people obtain food and cheese, they should eat it, and whatever is left over, return it to the Imam."
Hadith 3923
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ: «كُنَّا نَغْزُو فَنُصِيبُ مِنَ الثِّمَارِ، وَلَا نَرَى بِذَلِكَ بَأْسًا»
Abu Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "We used to eat fruit during military expeditions, and we did not consider there to be any harm in it."
