A Magian prisoner was brought to Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) from Persia. During the conversation, when he said that he had killed Muslims, Umar bin Abdul Aziz ordered him to be killed.

A Muslim brought a prisoner to Habib bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) at the time of food. Habib included him in the meal. When he gave some food to the prisoner, Habib said: "You have made his blood unlawful for us."

The army of Abdur Rahman bin Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) captured four enemies and killed them by shooting arrows at them repeatedly. When this news reached Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding killing by torture (i.e., killing a captive with delay and suffering)." Consequently, Abdur Rahman freed four slaves.

On the day of the Battle of Badr, there were seventy captives and sixty-nine killed, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the execution of ‘Uqbah bin Abi Mu‘ayt, so the total was seventy killed and seventy captives.

When Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) conquered Tustar and brought Hormuzan as a captive to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), Hormuzan spoke and accepted faith. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) spared his life and allotted him a stipend from the treasury.

A prisoner was brought to Husayn bin Numayr Sakuni (may Allah be pleased with him) in the land of Rome while he was eating. The prisoner ate a piece of meat with him at the meal, so Husayn said: "How can we kill him while our food is still between his teeth?" So he was released.
