Hadith 3826
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، أَنَّهُ قَدِمَ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ بِرَأْسِ يَنَّاقِ الْبِطْرِيقِ فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: يَا خَلِيفَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَفْعَلُونَ ذَلِكَ بِنَا، قَالَ: «فَاسْتِنَانٌ بِفَارِسَ وَالرُّومِ؟ لَا تُحْمَلْ إِلَيَّ رَأْسٌ، فَإِنَّمَا يَكْفِي الْكِتَابُ وَالْخَبَرُ»
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) brought the severed head of the Roman commander Yanaq to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), so Abu Bakr disliked it and said: "Why do you adopt the custom of the Romans and the Persians? Do not bring the head, news and a letter are sufficient."
Hadith 3827
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ، أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ (1)، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، قَالَ: جِئْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ بِأَوَّلِ فَتْحٍ مِنَ الشَّامِ بِرُؤُوسٍ، فَقَالَ: « مَا كُنْتَ تَصْنَعُ بِهَذِهِ شَيْئًا » وَقَالَ: « مَنْ أَعْطَاكُمُ الْجِزْيَةَ فَاقْبَلُوهَا مِنْهُ، وَمَنْ قَاتَلَكُمْ فَقَاتِلُوهُ، فَلَنْ تُؤْتَوُا الْجِزْيَةَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ الدَّرْبِ آخِرَ مَا عَلَيْكُمْ » .
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When I brought some severed heads to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) during the first conquest of Syria, he said: "There is no benefit in this. Accept jizyah from those who pay it, fight those who fight you, but do not bring heads."
Hadith 3828
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي صَاحِبٌ لِي، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ: «لَمْ يُحْمَلْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأْسٌ قَطُّ، وَلَا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ، وَحُمِلَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَأْسٌ فَأَنْكَرَهُ، وَأَوَّلُ مَنْ حُمِلَتْ إِلَيْهِ الرُّءُوسُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ»
No severed head was ever brought to the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him), neither on the day of Badr nor afterwards. When a head was brought to our master Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), he disliked it. The first person to whom a head was brought was our master Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 3829
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ الْجَزَرِيِّ، قَالَ: " أُتِيَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ بِرَأْسٍ، فَقَالَ: «بَغَيْتُمْ»
When the head was brought to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "You have committed excess."
Hadith 3830
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: قَدِمُوا عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ بِرَأْسِ يَنَّاقِ الْبِطْرِيقِ وَبِرُءُوسٍ فَكَتَبَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِلَى عَامِلِهِ بِالشَّامِ: «أَنْ لَا تَبْعَثُوا إِلَيَّ بِرَأْسٍ، إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيَكُمُ الْكِتَابُ وَالْخَبَرُ»
The heads of ostriches, bishops, and others were brought to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), so he wrote to his official: "Do not send heads to me; a letter and information are sufficient."
