Hadith 3695
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا تَتَمَنَّوْا لِقَاءَ الْعَدُوِّ، وَاسْأَلُوا اللَّهَ الْعَافِيَةَ، وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ تَحْتَ ظِلَالِ السُّيُوفِ» وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ يُمْهِلُ ثُمَّ يَنْهَدُ إِلَى عَدُوِّهِ وَيَقُولُ: «اللَّهُمَّ مُنْزِلَ الْكِتَابِ، وَمُجْرِيَ السَّحَابِ، وَهَازِمَ الْأَحْزَابِ، اهْزِمْهُمْ وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not wish to meet the enemy, and ask Allah for well-being, and know that Paradise is under the shade of swords." When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would see the sun decline, he would wait a little while and then advance towards the enemy and would supplicate: "O Revealer of the Book, O Mover of the clouds, O Defeater of the confederates! Defeat them and grant us victory over them."
Hadith 3696
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا تَتَمَنَّوْا لِقَاءَ عَدُوِّكُمْ، فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ عَسَى أَنْ تُبْتَلَوْا بِهِمْ، وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا: " اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنَاهُمْ وَكُفَّ عَنَّا بَأْسَهُمْ، فَإِذَا جَاءُوكُمْ يَعْزِفُونَ وَيُرَجِّعُونَ وَيَصِيحُونَ، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالْأَرْضِ، وَقُولُوا: «اللَّهُمَّ نَوَاصِينَا وَنَوَاصِيهِمْ بِيَدِكِ، وَإِنَّمَا تَقْتُلُهُمْ أَنْتَ، فَإِذَا غَشَوْكُمْ فَثُورُوا فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ، وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ تَحْتَ الْأَبَارِقَةِ»
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not wish to meet the enemy, for you do not know, perhaps you may be tested by them. Rather, say: O Allah! Protect us from them and keep their severity away from us. Then, when they come near you and raise their voices, remain firm on the ground and supplicate: O Allah! Our forelocks and theirs are in Your hand, You alone will kill them. When they overpower you, stand up before them and know that Paradise is under the shade of swords."
Hadith 3697
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ يُقَالُ: «السُّيُوفُ مَفَاتِيحُ الْجَنَّةِ»
Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It used to be said that swords are the keys to Paradise.
Hadith 3698
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحُبُلِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " لَا تَتَمَنَّوْا لِقَاءَ الْعَدُوِّ، وَاسْأَلُوا اللَّهَ الْعَافِيَةَ، فَإِنْ بُلِيتُمْ بِهِمْ فَقُولُوا: «اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّهُمْ نَوَاصِيهِمْ وَنَوَاصِينَا بِيَدِكَ فَقَاتِلْهُمْ لَنَا، وَاهْزِمْهُمْ لَنَا، وَغُضُّوا أَبْصَارَكُمْ، وَاحْمِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ عَلَى بَرَكَةِ اللَّهِ، وَالْتَمِسُوا الْجَنَّةَ تَحْتَ الْأَبَارِقَةِ»
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not wish to meet the enemy, and ask Allah for well-being. But if you are tested, then say: O Allah! You are our Lord and their Lord, our forelocks and their forelocks are in Your hand. Fight them for us, and grant us victory over them. Keep your gaze lowered, attack them with the blessing of Allah, and seek Paradise beneath the flashing swords."
Hadith 3699
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: أنا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ أَبِي حُدَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا حَضَرَ الْقِتَالُ يَقُولُ: «اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ عَضُدِي وَنَصِيرِي، بِكَ أَحُولُ، بِكَ أُصُولُ، وَبِكَ أُقَاتِلُ»
Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) would stand for battle, he would supplicate: "O Allah! You are my arm, my helper; with Your help I fight, with Your help I attack."
Hadith 3700
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَسْتَحِبُّ أَنْ يَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ بَعْدَ زَوَالِ الشَّمْسِ حِينَ تَهُبَّ الْأَرْوَاحُ»
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) liked that the encounter with the enemy should take place after the decline of the sun, when the winds blow.
Hadith 3701
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا قَاتَلَ قَاتَلَ حِينَ يَنْشَقُّ الْفَجْرُ إِلَى طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ، ثُمَّ يُمْسِكُ عَنِ الْقِتَالِ حَتَّى تَزُولَ الشَّمْسُ، ثُمَّ يُقَاتِلُ حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ "
When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) engaged in battle, he would fight from the break of dawn until sunrise, then he would pause until the sun declined, then after the decline he would resume fighting until the sun set.
Hadith 3702
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عِيَاضٍ الْفَزَارِيِّ، أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا أَشْرَفَ عَلَى قَرْيَةٍ لِيَدْخُلَهَا قَالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاءِ وَمَا أَظَلَّتْ، وَرَبَّ الْأَرْضِ وَمَا أَقَلَّتْ، أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيهَا، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا»
When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to attack a town, he would say: "O Lord of the heavens and the One who casts shade over them, O Lord of the earth and the One who spreads it out! I ask You for the goodness of this town and the goodness that is within it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this town and the evil that is within it."
Hadith 3703
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَالِدٌ، قَالَ: نا حُصَيْنٌ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: " مَنْ أَشْرَفَ عَلَى بَلْدَةٍ، فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي مَوَدَّةَ خِيَارِهِمْ، وَجَنِّبْنِي شِرَارَهُمْ، رَجَوْتُ أَنْ يُعْطَى ذَلِكَ "
Hazrat Awn bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Whoever reaches a town and supplicates, "O Allah! Grant me the love of their good people and protect me from their evil people," then it is hoped that his supplication will be accepted.
Hadith 3704
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى، قَالَ: دَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْأَحْزَابِ فَقَالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ مُنْزِلَ الْكِتَابِ سَرِيعَ الْحِسَابِ، اللَّهُمَّ اهْزِمْهُمْ وَزَلْزِلْهُمْ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated against the confederates: "O Revealer of the Book, O Swift in reckoning! O Allah! Defeat them and shake them."
