Hadith 3689
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي سَابِقٌ الْبَرْبَرِيُّ، قَالَ: كَتَبَ مَكْحُولٌ إِلَى الْحَسَنِ، فَجَاءَهُ جَوَابُ كِتَابِهِ وَنَحْنُ بِدَابِقٍ فِي الْقَوْمِ يَطْلُبُونَ الْعَدُوَّ قَالَ: «إِنْ كَانُوا يَطْلُبُونَ نَزَلُوا فَصَلَّوْا بِالْأَرْضِ، وَإِنْ كَانُوا يُطْلَبُونَ صَلَّوْا عَلَى دَوَابِّهِمْ»
Hazrat Sabiq Barbari, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Mak'hool wrote to Hasan Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, that we are searching for the enemy. The reply came: If you are searching for the enemy, then dismount and pray on the ground. If the enemy is searching for you, then pray on your mount.
Hadith 3690
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مُغِيرَةُ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ {فَرِجَالًا أَوْ رُكْبَانًا} [البقرة: 239] قَالَ: «عِنْدَ الْمُطَارَدَةِ يُصَلِّي حَيْثُ كَانَ وَجْهُهُ رَاكِبًا أَوْ رَاجِلًا، يُومِئُ إِيمَاءً، وَيَجْعَلُ السُّجُودَ أَخْفَضَ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ»
Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: «فرجالا أو ركبانا» [البقرة: 239] means: When being pursued by the enemy, pray wherever you are, whether on foot or mounted, by gesturing, and let your prostration be lower than your bowing.
Hadith 3691
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا يُونُسُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: «يُصَلِّي رَكْعَةً حَيْثُ كَانَ وَجْهُهُ يُومِئُ إِيمَاءً»
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Pray one rak'ah, in whichever direction you are facing, by gesturing.
Hadith 3692
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا جُوَيْبِرٌ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، قَالَ: «إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْمُسَايَفَةِ، أَوْ كَانَ يُطْلَبُ، أَوْ طَلَبَهُ سَبُعٌ، فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَةً حَيْثُ كَانَ وَجْهُهُ يُومِئُ إِيمَاءً، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَلْيُكَبِّرْ تَكْبِيرَتَيْنِ»
Hazrat Dhahhak (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If there is an encounter with the enemy, or a wild animal is in pursuit, then perform one rak'ah of prayer by gesture; if unable to gesture, then only say two takbirs.
Hadith 3693
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الْوَهَّابِ بْنَ بُخْتٍ الْمَكِّيَّ، يَقُولُ: «إِذَا كَانَتِ الْمُسَايَفَةُ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَاعُوا صَلَّوْا قِيَامًا، وَإِلَّا فَرُكْبَانًا، وَإِلَّا فَالتَّكْبِيرُ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِيعُوا فَلَا يَدَعُوهَا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ»
Abdul Wahab bin Bakht Makki (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When there is fighting, if you have the strength, then perform the prayer standing; otherwise, while riding. If that is also not possible, then say the takbeer. If even that is not possible, then at least keep the intention of prayer in your heart.
Hadith 3694
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، فِي قَوْلِهِ {فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ فَرِجَالًا أَوْ رُكْبَانًا} [البقرة: 239] قَالَ: «ذَلِكَ فِي الْقِتَالِ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الرَّجُلُ حَيْثُ مَا كَانَ وَجْهُهُ، وَعَلَى دَابَّتِهِ حَيْثُ مَا يُوَجِّهُهَا يُومِئُ بِرَأْسِهِ إِيمَاءً»
Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the explanation of the verse «فإن خفتم فرجالا أو ركبانا»: This is for the time of fighting, that a person should pray facing whichever direction he is able, and he may also pray on his mount, performing bowing and prostration with gestures of the head.
