Hadith 3560
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أنا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ أَبِي هِلَالٍ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ لَمَّا أَمَّرَ عَلَى الْأَجْنَادِ: يَزِيدَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَلَى جُنْدٍ، وَعَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ عَلَى جُنْدٍ، وَشُرَحْبِيلَ ابْنَ حَسَنَةَ عَلَى جُنْدٍ، وَأَمَّرَ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ عَلَى جُنْدٍ، ثُمَّ جَعَلَ يَزِيدَ عَلَى الْجَمَاعَةِ، وَخَرَجَ مَعَهُ يُشَيِّعُهُ وَيُوصِيهِ، وَيَزِيدُ رَاكِبٌ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ يَمْشِي إِلَى جَنْبِهِ، فَقَالَ يَزِيدُ: يَا خَلِيفَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِمَّا أَنْ تَرْكَبَ، وَإِمَّا أَنْ أَنْزِلَ وَأَمْشِيَ مَعَكَ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَسْتُ بِرَاكِبٍ، وَلَسْتُ بِتَارِكِكَ أَنْ تَنْزِلَ , إِنِّي أَحْتَسِبُ هَذَا الْخَطْوَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، يَا يَزِيدُ إِنَّكُمْ سَتَقْدَمُونَ أَرْضًا يُقَدَّمُ إِلَيْكُمْ فِيهَا أَلْوَانُ الْأَطْعِمَةِ، فَسَمُّوا اللَّهَ إِذَا أَكَلْتُمْ، وَاحْمَدُوهُ إِذَا فَرَغْتُمْ، يَا يَزِيدُ، إِنَّكُمْ سَتَلْقَوْنَ قَوْمًا قَدْ فَحَصُوا أَوْسَاطَ رُءُوسِهِمْ فَهِيَ كَالْعَصَائِبِ، فَفَلَقُوا هَامَهُمْ بِالسُّيُوفِ، وَسَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ فِي صَوَامِعَ لَهُمْ، احْتَبَسُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ فِيهَا، فَدَعْهُمْ حَتَّى يُمِيتَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِيهَا عَلَى ضَلَالَتِهِمْ، يَا يَزِيدُ لَا تَقْتُلْ صَبِيًّا، وَلَا امْرَأَةً، وَلَا صَغِيرًا، وَلَا تُخَرِّبَنَّ عَامِرًا، وَلَا تَعْقِرَنَّ شَجَرًا مُثْمِرًا، وَلَا دَابَّةً عَجْمَاءَ، وَلَا بَقَرَةً، وَلَا شَاةً إِلَّا لِمَأْكَلَةٍ، وَلَا تَحْرِقَنَّ نَخْلًا، وَلَا تُغَرِّقَنَّهُ، وَلَا تَغْلُلْ، وَلَا تَجْبُنْ "
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Ubaid bin Nasheet, may Allah have mercy on him, that when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, dispatched armies towards Syria, he appointed Yazid bin Abi Sufyan, Amr bin Al-Aas, Shurahbil bin Hasana, and Khalid bin Walid, may Allah be pleased with them, each over separate armies. Yazid bin Abi Sufyan, may Allah be pleased with him, was appointed as the commander over all of them. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, himself walked with them on foot, giving them advice. Yazid said: "O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah! Either you ride, or I will get down and walk with you on foot." So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Neither will I ride, nor will I let you get down. I seek the reward of these steps in the way of Allah." Then he said: "There, many kinds of food and drink will be presented to you. When you eat, mention the name of Allah, and when you finish, say Alhamdulillah. You will meet people who have shaved their heads, their heads will be like straps, split their heads with swords. Some people you will find confined in monasteries, absorbed in worship, leave them to their state." Then he said: "Do not kill any child, woman, or old man. Do not destroy inhabited areas. Do not cut down fruit-bearing trees, or slaughter mute animals, cows, or goats except for food. Do not burn or flood palm groves. Do not commit treachery. Do not show cowardice."
Hadith 3561
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: نا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ مَوْلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: اسْتَأْذَنَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْغَزْوِ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ فَقَالَ: «إِنْ لَقِيتَ فَلَا تَجْبُنْ، وَإِنْ قَدَرْتَ فَلَا تَغْلُلْ، وَلَا تَحْرِقَنَّ نَخْلًا، وَلَا تَعْقِرْهَا، وَلَا تَقْطَعْ شَجَرَةً مَطْعَمَةً، وَلَا تَقْتُلْ بَهِيمَةً لَيْسَتْ لَكَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ، وَاتَّقِ أَذَى الْمُؤْمِنِ»
A companion sought permission for jihad, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Do not be afraid, do not commit treachery, do not burn or cut down date palm trees, do not kill animals without necessity, and do not harm the Muslims."
Hadith 3562
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ نَوْفَلِ بْنِ مُسَاحِقٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عِصَامٍ الْمُزَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فَقَالَ: «إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ مَسْجِدًا أَوْ سَمِعْتُمْ مُؤَذِّنًا فَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَحَدًا»
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent (us) on an expedition and said: "If you see a mosque or hear the call to prayer, then do not kill anyone."
Hadith 3563
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ، وَأَبِي الْمُسَافِعِ، قَالَا: كَتَبَ إِلَيْنَا عُمَرُ وَنَحْنُ بِنَهَاوَنْدَ «أَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ لِوَقْتِهَا، وَإِذَا لَقِيتُمْ فَلَا تَفِرُّوا، وَإِذَا غَنِمْتُمْ فَلَا تَغُلُّوا»
Abu Salat and Abu Masafi’ (may Allah have mercy on them) narrate: “We were in Nahawand when Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) sent us this written message: Establish the prayer at its appointed time, do not turn your backs when you meet the enemy, and do not be dishonest with the spoils when you obtain them.”
