Hadith 2372
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «إِذَا مَاتَ الرَّجُلُ عَنِ امْرَأَتِهِ، وَهُوَ غَائِبٌ، أَوْ طَلَّقَ وَهُوَ غَائِبٌ، فَإِنَّ الْعِدَّةَ تَقَعُ عَلَيْهَا مِنْ يَوْمِ يَمُوتُ أَوْ يُطَلِّقُهَا» .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If someone's wife dies or is divorced during his absence, then the 'iddah will start from the day the husband gave the divorce or died.
Hadith 2373
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، قَالَ: أنا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ
Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) also said the same.
Hadith 2374
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: «تَعْتَدُّ مِنْ يَوْمِ مَاتَ أَوْ طَلَّقَ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A woman will observe her waiting period (‘iddah) from the very day her husband dies or divorces her.
Hadith 2375
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: «تَعْتَدُّ مِنْ يَوْمِ تُوُفِّيَ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The waiting period (‘iddah) for death will begin from the day (of death).
Hadith 2376
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ، وَمُجَاهِدًا، وَعَطَاءً، وَأَبَا قِلَابَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدَ بْنَ سِيرِينَ، وَعِكْرِمَةَ فَقَالُوا: «مِنْ يَوْمِ تُوُفِّيَ»
Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair, Mujahid, Ata, Aba Qalabah, Muhammad bin Sirin, and Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on them) said: The waiting period (‘iddah) will begin from the day of death.
