Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If someone writes a divorce and then erases it before uttering it, nothing will happen, unless he acts upon it or says it with his tongue.

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ قَالَ: أنا مَنْصُورٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ

Hazrat Aamir Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If someone wrote a letter to his wife: When my letter reaches you, start your waiting period ('iddah), and the letter did not reach her and he died, then nothing will happen.

Hazrat Aamir Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If someone wrote a letter to his wife: "Begin your 'iddah," and the wife passed away before the letter reached her, then if the 'iddah was not completed, she will share in the inheritance, otherwise not.

Hazrat Aamir Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If someone wrote a letter to his wife and the wife says that she did not receive the letter, but the husband has given divorce, whether the letter reaches her or not, she must act according to the husband's command.
