Hadith 2161
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ: سُئِلَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ، مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ قَالَ: «لَا نَعْلَمُ إِلَّا أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَرَّمَ الْأُخْتَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ» . فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ يَقُولُ: لَا تُحَرِّمُ الرَّضْعَةُ وَالرَّضْعَتَانِ، وَلَا الْمَصَّةُ وَلَا الْمَصَّتَانِ. قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: «قَضَاءُ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ قَضَائِكَ وَقَضَاءِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَعَكَ»
When Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked about breastfeeding (raḍā‘ah), he said: "All we know is that Allah has made a sister unlawful (for marriage) through breastfeeding."
Hadith 2162
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: «لَا رَضَاعَ إِلَّا مَا كَانَ فِي الصِّغَرِ»
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Suckling is only considered valid in childhood."
Hadith 2163
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا اسْتَسْقَى امْرَأَتَهُ فِي يَوْمٍ صَائِفٍ، قَالَتْ: سَقَيْتُكَ مِنْ لِبَنِي. فَسَأَلَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: «دَعْهَا، لَا خَيْرَ لَكَ فِيهَا، وَإِنْ أَمْسَكْتَهَا فَأَوْجِعْ ظَهْرَهَا»
A woman gave her husband water to drink from her milk on a hot day. Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Leave her, there is no good for you in her, and if you keep her, then punish her severely."
Hadith 2164
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَوْجَرَتْهُ امْرَأَتُهُ أَوْ سَعَطَتْهُ مِنْ لَبَنِهَا، فَأَتَوْا أَبَا مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيَّ، فَقَالَ: «حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْهِ» . ثُمَّ أَتَوْا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، فَقَالَ: لَا رَضَاعَ بَعْدَ الْحَوْلَيْنِ، إِنَّمَا الرَّضَاعُ مَا أَنْبَتَ اللَّحْمَ وَأَنْشَزَ الْعَظْمَ. قَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى: لَا تَسْأَلُونِي - أَوْ لَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ تَسْأَلُونِي - عَنْ شَيْءٍ مَا دَامَ هَذَا الْحَبْرُ بَيْنَكُمْ
A man took something from his wife's milk through his nose or throat. Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "That woman has become forbidden to him." But Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "There is no consideration for suckling after two years; suckling is only that which strengthens the bone and grows the flesh." Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "As long as this scholar (Abdullah bin Mas'ud) is present, do not ask me anything."
Hadith 2165
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ اللَّيْثِيُّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قُسَيْطٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَأَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ، وَسَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ، وَعَطَاءَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ «عَنْ لَبَنِ الْفَحْلِ، فَكُلُّهُمْ لَا يَرَى بِهِ بَأْسًا»
Hazrat Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman, Abu Bakr bin Sulaiman, Saeed bin Musayyib, and Ata bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on them) were asked, and all of them said: "There is no harm in the milk of a stallion (male animal)."
Hadith 2166
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَحْرُمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ مَا يَحْرُمُ مِنَ الْوِلَادَةِ»
Hazrat Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The prohibition (of marriage) due to suckling is the same as the prohibition due to lineage."
Hadith 2167
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنِّي تَزَوَّجْتُ ابْنَةَ أَبِي إِهَابٍ، وَإِنَّ امْرَأَةً زَعَمَتْ أَنَّهَا أَرْضَعَتْنَا. فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ مِنَ الشِّقِّ الْآخَرِ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ مِنْ قِبَلِ وَجْهِهِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّهَا سَوْدَاءُ. قَالَ: «كَيْفَ وَقَدْ قِيلَ»
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "I have married the daughter of Abi Ihab, and a woman claims that she has breastfed both of us." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from him. Uqbah came from the other side, but he turned away again. Then he came from the front and said: "O Messenger of Allah! That woman is black." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When it has been said (that she has breastfed you), (then the marriage is not permissible)."
Hadith 2168
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: «تَجُوزُ شَهَادَةُ الْمَرْأَةِ الْوَاحِدَةِ فِي الرَّضَاعِ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ سَوْدَاءَ»
Ibn Tawus narrates from his father, who said: "In the matter of breastfeeding, the testimony of a woman is accepted, even if she is black."
Hadith 2169
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى، وَالْحَجَّاجُ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ أُتِيَ فِي امْرَأَةٍ شَهِدَتْ عَلَى رَجُلٍ وَامْرَأَتِهِ أَنَّهَا أَرْضَعَتْهُمَا، فَقَالَ: «لَا، حَتَّى يَشْهَدَ رَجُلَانِ أَوْ رَجُلٌ وَامْرَأَتَانِ»
Hashim narrated from Ibn Abi Layla and Hajjaj, from Ikrimah bin Khalid Makhzumi, that a woman was brought before Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) who testified about a man and his wife that she had breastfed both of them. So Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "No, not unless two men or one man and two women testify."
Hadith 2170
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ - وُلِدَ فِي زَمَنِ عُثْمَانَ - أَنَّ امْرَأَةً شَهِدَتْ عَلَى رَضَاعٍ، فَقَالَتْ: أَرْضَعْتُ رَجُلًا وَامْرَأَتَهُ. فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ: «تَحْلِفُ عِنْدَ الْكَعْبَةِ. فَلَمَّا حُمِلَتْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ رَجَعَتْ»
It is narrated from Wahb bin Uqbah (who was born in the time of Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman gave testimony regarding breastfeeding, saying: I breastfed a man and his wife. So Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "She should swear an oath by the Ka'bah." But when she was pressed hard, she retracted.
Hadith 2171
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا يُونُسُ، وَأنا مَنْصُورٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ فِي الْمَرْأَةِ إِذَا شَهِدَتْ عَلَى رَجُلٍ وَامْرَأَتِهِ أَنَّهَا أَرْضَعَتْهُمَا، قَالَ مَرَّةً: «إِنْ كَانَتْ مَرْضِيَّةً» وَقَالَ مَرَّةً: «إِنْ كَانَتْ عَدْلًا اسْتُحْلِفَتْ بِاللَّهِ أَنَّهَا أَرْضَعَتْهُمَا، فَإِنْ حَلَفَتْ فُرِّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا» . قَالَ هُشَيْمٌ: وَلَا يُؤْخَذُ بِهِ
Yunus and Mansur narrated from Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that when a woman testifies about a man and his wife that she has breastfed both of them, Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) once said: "If she is trustworthy." And on another occasion he said: "If she is just, then she should be made to swear by Allah that she has breastfed them; if she takes the oath, then separation should be made between the two of them." Hushaym said: "We do not act upon this."
Hadith 2172
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا يُونُسُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ «أَنَّهُ كَانَ لَا يَرَى بَأْسًا أَنْ يَسْتَرْضِعَ الرَّجُلُ لِوَلَدِهِ الْيَهُودِيَّةَ وَالنَّصْرَانِيَّةَ وَالْفَاجِرَةَ» .
It is narrated from Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that he used to say: "A man can have his child breastfed by a Jewish woman, a Christian woman, or an immoral (bad) woman."
Hadith 2173
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا مُخْبِرٌ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، مِثْلَهُ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَذْكُرِ الْفَاجِرَةَ
A narration from Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) is also reported in the same way, except that he did not mention "Fajirah".
Hadith 2174
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ كِنَانَةَ - أُرَاهُ عِتْوَارِيًّا، قَالَ: جَلَسْتُ إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ، فَقَالَ: أَمِنْ بَنِي فُلَانٍ أَنْتَ؟ قُلْتُ: لَا، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ أَرْضَعُونِي. قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ اللَّبَنَ يُشْتَبَهُ عَلَيْهِ»
Umar bin Habib narrates from a man (who was probably from the tribe of Kinanah), he says: I was sitting with Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), he asked: "Are you from such-and-such tribe?" I said: "No, but they have suckled me." So Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "There can be doubt regarding milk."
