Hadith 1761
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا الْعَوَّامُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ التَّيْمِيُّ، قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ لِامْرَأَةٍ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ: «أَنْشُدُكِ اللَّهَ أَنْ تَزَوَّجِي مُسْلِمًا، وَإِنْ كَانَ أَحْمَرَ رُومِيًّا، أَوْ أَسْوَدَ حَبَشِيًّا»
Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah have mercy on him) said to a woman of his household: "I implore you by Allah to marry a Muslim, even if he is a red Roman or a black Abyssinian."
Hadith 1762
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَنْكَحْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ حَارِثَةَ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ جَحْشٍ، وَأَنْكَحْتُ الْمِقْدَادَ ضُبَاعَةَ بِنْتَ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ؛ لِيَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ أَشْرَفَ الشَّرَفِ لِلْإِسْلَامِ»
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I married Zaid bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) to Zainab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her), and I married Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) to Dubaa’ah bint Zubair bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with her), so that people may know that the greatest honor is that of Islam."
Hadith 1763
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، أَنَّ بِلَالًا خَطَبَ عَلَى أَخِيهِ إِلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ، فَقَالَ: «أَنَا بِلَالٌ وَهَذَا أَخِي، كُنَّا عَبْدَيْنِ فَأَعْتَقَنَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَكُنَّا ضَالَّيْنِ فَهَدَانَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ»
Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a marriage proposal for his brother to a family of the Arabs and said: "I am Bilal and this is my brother. We were both slaves, Allah the Mighty and Majestic freed us, and we were astray, Allah the Mighty and Majestic guided us."
Hadith 1764
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ قَالَ: أنا أَبُو سُفْيَانَ مَوْلَى مُزَيْنَةَ أَنَّ بِلَالًا، قَالَ: «إِنْ أَنْكَحْتُمُونَا فَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَإِنْ رَدَدْتُمُونَا فَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ»
Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If you give us in marriage, then all praise is due to Allah, and if you refuse, then Allah is the Greatest."
Hadith 1765
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ صُهَيْبًا أَنْ يَخْطُبَ إِلَى نَاسٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، فَأَتَاهُمْ فَخَطَبَ إِلَيْهِمْ، فَقَالُوا: لَا نُزَوِّجُكَ عَبْدًا وَانْتَفَوْا مِنْهُ. فَقَالَ: لَوْلَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَنِي مَا فَعَلْتُ. فَقَالُوا: وَأَمَرَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ. قَالُوا: فَأَمْرُهَا فِي يَدِكَ. فَزَوَّجُوهَا مِنْهُ، فَأَخْبَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَتَاهُ ذَهَبٌ، فَأَمَرَ لَهُ بِقِطْعَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: «سُقْ هَذَا إِلَى أَهْلِكَ» . وَقَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: «اجْمَعُوا لِأَخِيكُمْ فِي وَلِيمَتِهِ»
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) to some people of the Ansar for a marriage proposal. When they refused, Suhaib said: "If it were not for the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I would not have done this." They asked: "Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) command you?" He replied: "Yes." So they performed the marriage. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent gold and said: "Take this to your house." And he said to the Companions: "Help your brother in his wedding feast (walimah)."
Hadith 1766
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: نا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَهْمِ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَأَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَلَى فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ قَيْسٍ، فَقُلْتُ لَهَا: كَمْ طَلَّقَكِ زَوْجُكِ؟ قَالَتْ: طَلَّقَنِي طَلَاقًا بَائِنًا، وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ لِي سُكْنَى وَلَا نَفَقَةً. فَقَالَ: صَدَقَ. وَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَعْتَدَّ فِي بَيْتِ ابْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ رَجُلٌ يُغْشَى، وَلَكِنِ اعْتَدِّي فِي بَيْتِ فُلَانٍ، فَلَمَّا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتِي خَطَبَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ وَأَبُو الْجَهْمِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ لَيْسَ لَهُ مَالٌ، وَأَبُو الْجَهْمِ رَجُلٌ شَدِيدٌ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ، وَلَكِنْ أُزَوِّجُكِ مِنْ أُسَامَةَ» . قَالَتْ: فَزَوَّجَنِي أُسَامَةَ، فَبُورِكَ لِي "
I and Sayyiduna Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with them) went to Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her). I asked her, "How did your husband divorce you?" She replied, "He gave me an irrevocable divorce; he did not provide residence nor maintenance. Then I was ordered to observe my waiting period in the house of Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him). Then it was said, 'Since Ibn Umm Maktum is blind, observe your waiting period in another house.' When my waiting period was completed, Muawiyah and Abu Al-Jahm sent proposals. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Muawiyah has no wealth and Abu Al-Jahm is harsh with women, but I marry you to Usamah.' She says, 'I was married to Usamah and Allah put blessing in it.'"
Hadith 1767
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ هُرْمُزَ الصَّنْعَانِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا أَتَاكُمْ مَنْ تَرْضَوْنَ دِينَهُ وَأَمَانَتَهُ فَزَوِّجُوهُ، إِلَّا تَفْعَلُوا تَكُنْ فِتْنَةٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَفَسَادٌ كَبِيرٌ» . قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ وَإِنْ كَانَ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ»
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When someone whose religion and trustworthiness you are pleased with comes to you (with a proposal), then marry (your daughter) to him. If you do not do so, there will be great turmoil and corruption on the earth." The Companions asked: "What if he is not as we desire?" He replied: "Yes, even then, marry (your daughter) to him."
Hadith 1768
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: نا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، قَالَ: قَالَتْ لَنَا أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ: «يَا بَنِيَّ وَبَنِي بَنِيَّ، إِنَّ هَذَا النِّكَاحَ رِقٌّ، فَلْيَنْظُرْ أَحَدُكُمْ عِنْدَ مَنْ يُرِقُّ كَرِيمَتَهُ»
Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O my sons and the sons of my daughters! Marriage is bondage; everyone should see to whom he gives his daughter in marriage."
Hadith 1769
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا تَزَوَّجَ سَلْمَانُ إِلَى أَبِي قُرَّةَ الْكِنْدِيِّ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا قَالَ: يَا هَذِهِ، إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْصَانِي، وَقَالَ: «إِنْ قَضَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَكَ أَنْ تَزَوَّجَ فَتَكُونَ أَوَّلَ مَا تَجْتَمِعَانِ عَلَيْهِ طَاعَةُ اللَّهِ» . فَقَالَتْ: إِنَّكَ جَلَسْتَ مَجْلِسَ الْمَرْءِ يُطَاعُ أَمْرُهُ. فَقَالَ لَهَا: قُومِي فَصَلِّي وَنَدْعُو. فَفَعَلَا، فَرَأَى بَيْتًا مُسَتَّرًا، فَقَالَ: مَا بَالُ بَيْتِكُمْ هَذَا، أَمَحْمُومٌ، أَمْ تَحَوَّلَتِ الْكَعْبَةُ فِي كِنْدَةَ؟ فَقَالُوا: لَيْسَ بِمَحْمُومٍ، وَلَمْ تُحَوَّلِ الْكَعْبَةُ فِي كِنْدَةَ، فَقَالَ: لَا أَدْخُلُهُ حَتَّى يُهْتَكَ كُلُّ سِتْرٍ إِلَّا سِتْرًا عَلَى بَابٍ "
When Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) married into the family of Abi Qurrah Kindi, when he came to his wife, he said: "O lady! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) advised me: 'When Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, grants you the ability to marry, let your first act be obedience to Allah.'" The wife said: "You are in a position where a man's command is to be obeyed." So Sayyiduna Salman said: "Get up, pray, and supplicate." Then he saw curtains in the house and said: "What is this? Is someone sick, or has the Ka'bah been moved to Kindah?" It was said: "No one is sick, nor has the Ka'bah been moved." So he said: "I will not enter until all the curtains are removed except for the curtain on the door."
Hadith 1770
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا حُدَيْجُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي لَيْلَى الْكِنْدِيِّ، قَالَ: خَرَجَ سَلْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فِي ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَلَمَّا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ قَالُوا: تَقَدَّمْ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ؛ فَأَنْتَ أَعْلَمُنَا وَأَسَنُّنَا. فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا يَا مَعْشَرَ الْعَرَبِ، تَؤُمُّونَنَا وَلَا نَؤُمُّكُمْ، وَتَنْكِحُونَ نِسَاءَنَا وَلَا نَنْكِحُ نِسَاءَكُمْ. فَتَقَدَّمَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ أَرْبَعًا، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ لَهُ سَلْمَانُ: صَلَّيْتَ أَرْبَعًا، كُنَّا إِلَى الرُّخْصَةِ أَحْوَجَ "
Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) set out on a journey with thirteen companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the time for prayer came, the people said: "Step forward, O Abu Abdullah! You are the most knowledgeable and senior among us." Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Indeed, Allah the Exalted has given you superiority over us, O group of Arabs! You lead us in prayer, we do not lead you; you marry our women, we do not marry your women." Then one of them stepped forward and led them in four units (rak‘ahs) of prayer. When he finished, Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You led us in four units, even though we were more in need of concession."
Hadith 1771
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَوْسَ بْنَ ضَمْعَجٍ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ سَلْمَانُ: «لَا نَؤُمُّكُمْ، وَلَا نَنْكِحُ نِسَاءَكُمْ»
Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We do not lead you in prayer, nor do we marry your women."
