Hadith 1594
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ اسْتَفْتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَذْرٍ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهِ مَاتَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْضِيَ، فَقَالَ: «اقْضِ عَنْهَا»
Sa'd bin 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about his mother's vow which she was not able to fulfill before she died. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Fulfill the vow on her behalf."
Hadith 1595
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: جَاءَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تُوصِ، فَهَلْ يَنْفَعُهَا أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ: «نَعَمْ»
Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace be upon him), “My mother has died and she did not make a will. Can I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Yes.”
Hadith 1596
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مَنْصُورٌ، وَيُونُسُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنِّي كُنْتُ ابْنَ أُمِّ سَعْدٍ، وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ، فَهَلْ يَنْفَعُهَا أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ» . قَالَ: فَأَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: «اسْقِ الْمَاءَ» قَالَ: فَجَعَلَ صِهْرِيجَيْنِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ. قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: فَرُبَّمَا سَعَيْتُ بَيْنَهُمَا وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ
Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: “My mother has passed away. Will she benefit if I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes.” Then he said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” So he (Sa’d) built two cisterns in Madinah.
Hadith 1597
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ: إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تُوصِ , أَفَأُوصِي عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ»
A woman asked the Prophet (peace be upon him), "My mother passed away without making a will. Can I make a will on her behalf?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Yes."
Hadith 1598
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ: «مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ يَمُوتُ يُؤْمَرُ بِالْوَصِيَّةِ وَلَمْ يُوصِ، إِلَّا وَأَهْلُهُ مَحْقُوقُونَ أَنْ يُوصُوا عَنْهُ»
It is narrated from Ibn Tawus, may Allah have mercy on him, that "If a person, despite being commanded to make a will, does not make a will, then it is obligatory upon his family to make a will on his behalf."
Hadith 1599
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ، قَالَ: وَسُئِلَ طَاوُسٌ عَنْ صَدَقَةِ الْحَيِّ عَنِ الْمَيِّتِ، قَالَ: بَخٍ، أَعْجَبَهُ
Tawoos (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: If a living person gives charity on behalf of a deceased person, how is it? He replied: "It is a very good thing."
Hadith 1600
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ نَذْرٍ، كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهِ مِنِ اعْتِكَافٍ وَمَاتَتْ قَالَ: «صُمْ عَنْهَا وَاعْتَكِفْ عَنْهَا»
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that "If someone's mother had made a vow for i'tikaf and she passes away, then perform i'tikaf and fast on her behalf."
Hadith 1601
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ مُصْعَبٍ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ «اعْتَكَفَتْ عَنْ أَخِيهَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بَعْدَ مَا مَاتَ»
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) observed i'tikaf on behalf of her brother Abdur Rahman after his death.
