Hadith 1215
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا يُونُسُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، قَالَ: نا الْحَسَنُ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، نَشَدَ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ: " مَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ عِنْدَهُ عِلْمٌ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْجَدِّ فَلْيَقُمْ , فَقَامَ مَعْقِلُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ فَقَالَ: قَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي جَدٍّ كَانَ فِينَا , قَالَ: كَمْ أَعْطَاهُ؟ قَالَ: أَعْطَاهُ السُّدُسَ، قَالَ: مَعَ مَنْ؟ قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي قَالَ: لَا دَرَيْتَ "
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the people: "Whoever among you has knowledge from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the grandfather, let him stand up." Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar Al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a ruling among us regarding the grandfather." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "How much did he give him?" He said: "One-sixth." He asked: "With whom?" He said: "I do not know." He (Umar) said: "Then you do not know anything."
Hadith 1216
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ أَبِي عِيسَى الْحَنَّاطِ، قَالَ سَأَلَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ النَّاسَ، فَقَالَ: أَيُّكُمْ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي الْجَدِّ شَيْئًا؟ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: أَنَا، فَقَالَ: مَا أَعْطَاهُ؟ قَالَ: أَعْطَاهُ سُدُسَ مَالِهِ , قَالَ: مَاذَا مَعَهُ مِنَ الْوَرَثَةِ؟ قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي , قَالَ: لَا دَرَيْتَ، وَقَالَ آخَرُ: لِي عِلْمٌ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَاذَا أَعَطَى الْجَدَّ؟ أَعْطَاهُ ثُلُثَ مَالِهِ , قَالَ: مَاذَا مَعَهُ مِنَ الْوَرَثَةِ؟ قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي قَالَ: لَا دَرَيْتَ، قَالَ آخَرُ: لِي عِلْمٌ. مَاذَا أَعْطَاهُ؟ أَعْطَاهُ نِصْفَ مَالِهِ، قَالَ: مَاذَا مَعَهُ مِنَ الْوَرَثَةِ؟ قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي , قَالَ: لَا دَرَيْتَ، قَالَ آخَرُ: لِي عِلْمٌ. مَا أَعْطَاهُ؟ قَالَ: أَعْطَاهُ الْمَالَ كُلَّهُ , قَالَ: مَاذَا مَعَهُ مِنَ الْوَرَثَةِ؟ قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي، قَالَ: لَا دَرَيْتَ، فَلَمَّا وَضَعَ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ الْفَرَائِضَ أَعْطَاهُ سُدُسَ مَالِهِ مَعَ الْوَلَدِ الذَّكَرِ، وَأَعْطَاهُ ثُلُثَ مَالِهِ مَعَ الْإِخْوَةِ، وَأَعْطَاهُ نِصْفَ مَالِهِ مَعَ الْأَخِ وَأَعْطَاهُ الْمَالَ كُلَّهُ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ وَارِثٌ "
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the people: "Who has heard anything from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the grandfather?" A man said: "I have." He asked: "What was given?" He said: "One-sixth of the wealth." He asked: "Who were the heirs with him?" He said: "I do not know." He said: "You know nothing." Another said: "I have knowledge; the grandfather was given one-third of the wealth." Then the same question and answer. A third said: "He was given half of the wealth." A fourth said: "He was given all the wealth." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to all: "If you do not know, then you know nothing." Then, when Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) determined the shares of inheritance, he gave the grandfather one-sixth with the son, one-third with brothers, half the wealth with one brother, and if there was no heir, he gave all the wealth.
Hadith 1217
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ، قَالَ: نا أَبُو الْمُتَوَكِّلِ النَّاجِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، «كَانَ يُنْزِلُ الْجَدَّ أَبًا»
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) used to consider the grandfather in the position of the father.
Hadith 1218
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءُ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، «يَجْعَلُ الْجَدَّ أَبًا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give the grandfather the status of the father.
Hadith 1219
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، ثنا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، «كَانَ يُنْزِلُ الْجَدَّ أَبًا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to place the grandfather in the position of the father.
Hadith 1220
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ مَرْوَانَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ «كَانَ يَجْعَلُ الْجَدَّ أَبًا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give the grandfather the status of the father.
Hadith 1221
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ الضَّرِيرُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، كَتَبَ إِلَى أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ أَنِ اجْعَلِ الْجَدَّ أَبًا، فَإِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، جَعَلَ الْجَدَّ أَبًا "
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) stating: "Consider the grandfather as the father, because Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) regarded the grandfather as the father."
Hadith 1222
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مَنْصُورٌ، وَيُونُسُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، «كَانَ يُنْزِلُ الْجَدَّ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْوَالِدِ»
It is narrated from Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to consider the grandfather in the place of the father.
Hadith 1223
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ لَيْثِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، وَعُثْمَانَ، وَابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ «كَانُوا يَجْعَلُونَ الْجَدَّ أَبًا» وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: «يَرِثُنِي ابْنِي دُونَ أَخِي، وَلَا أَرِثُ ابْنِي دُونَ أَخِيهِ»
It is narrated from Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Uthman, and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) considered the grandfather as (equivalent to) the father. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "My son will inherit from me, not my brother, and I will not become the heir of my son in the presence of his brother."
Hadith 1224
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: نا أَيُّوبُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، «جَعَلَ الْجَدَّ أَبًا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to consider the grandfather as (equivalent to) the father.
Hadith 1225
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: نا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، قَالَ: أَمَّا الَّذِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَوْ كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذًا مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ خَلِيلًا لَاتَّخَذْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ»، فَإِنَّهُ قَضَاهُ أَبًا "
It is narrated from Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I were to take anyone as a close friend (khalil) in this Ummah, I would have taken Abu Bakr; thus, it is as if you have given him the status of a father."
Hadith 1226
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: الْجَدُّ أَبٌ، وَقَرَأَ {وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَائِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ}
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "A grandfather is (like) a father." And he recited this verse: ﴿وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَائِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ﴾ "And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."
Hadith 1227
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا حَجَّاجٌ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ: «مَنْ شَاءَ لَاعَنْتُهُ عِنْدَ الْحَجَرِ الْأَسْوَدِ أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِي الْقُرْآنِ جَدًّا وَلَا جَدَّةً إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا الْآبَاءُ ثُمَّ تَلَا {وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَائِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ» }
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "Whoever wishes, I will do Mubahala with him at the Hajar Aswad that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has not mentioned grandfather and grandmother in the Qur'an, rather He has called all of them 'fathers' (ābā’).” Then he recited this verse: ﴿وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَائِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ﴾ “And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
Hadith 1228
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا جُوَيْبِرٌ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الْجَدِّ، فَقَالَ: مَا اسْمُكَ؟ فَقَالَ: فُلَانٌ، قَالَ: ابْنُ مَنْ؟ قَالَ: ابْنُ فُلَانٍ، قَالَ: ابْنُ مَنْ؟ قَالَ: ابْنُ فُلَانٍ، فَقَالَ: «مَا أَرَاكَ تَعُدُّ إِلَّا آبَاءً» ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: {وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَائِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ} . قَالَ: «فَبَدَأَ بِجَدَّيْهِ قَبْلَ أَبِيهِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to him and asked about the grandfather. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked him about his lineage. When he continued to mention up to three generations, he said: "You are only counting fathers." Then he recited this verse: __QUR_N__ "And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." __QUR_N__ And he said: "Allah has given precedence to the grandfather over the parents."
Hadith 1229
سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا سُلَيْمَانُ الْأَعْمَشُ، قَالَ: نا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ السُّلَمِيُّ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الْجَدِّ فَقَالَ: مَا اسْمُكَ؟ قَالَ: فُلَانٌ. قَالَ: ابْنُ مَنْ؟ قَالَ: ابْنُ فُلَانٍ. قَالَ: ابْنُ مَنْ؟ قَالَ: ابْنُ فُلَانٍ. قَالَ: «مَا أَرَاكَ تَعُدُّ إِلَّا آبَاءً»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to him and asked about the grandfather. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked about his lineage and said: "You are only counting the fathers."
