الْآيَةُ (88) قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ قَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الْعَزِيزُ مَسَّنَا وَأَهْلَنَا الضُّرُّ وَجِئْنَا بِبِضَاعَةٍ مُزْجَاةٍ فَأَوْفِ لَنَا الْكَيْلَ وَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَيْنَا إِنَّ اللهَ يَجْزِي الْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ}
Verse (88) His saying, Exalted is He: {So when they entered upon him, they said, "O Aziz, adversity has touched us and our family, and we have come with goods poor in quality, but give us full measure and be charitable to us. Indeed, Allah rewards the charitable"}

Hadith 1139
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، قَالَ: نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، فِي قَوْلِهِ: { وَجِئْنَا بِبِضَاعَةٍ مُزْجَاةٍ } - أَيْ قَلِيلَةٍ .
Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “And we have brought poor merchandise” means: And we have brought a small amount of goods, that is, little wealth.
Hadith 1140
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: نَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَ: قَلِيلَةٌ، مَتَاعُ الْأَعْرَابِ الصُّوفُ وَالسَّمْنُ .
Abdullah bin Al-Harith (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Qaleelah," meaning little wealth, and the wealth of the Bedouins is mostly wool and ghee.
Hadith 1141
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْبِضَاعَةِ الْمُزْجَاةِ، قَالَ: خَلَقُ الْغِرَارَةِ، وَالْجَرِينُ، وَالْحَبْلُ، وَالشَّيْءُ .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked: What is meant by "bida'atun muzjah"? He replied: These are things that are weak, defective, and inferior, such as rag (i.e., ghareerah), thread (i.e., jareen), rope (i.e., habl), and other things that are weak or defective.
Hadith 1142
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الطَّوِيلُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ: تَصَدَّقْ عَلَيَّ تَصَدَّقَ اللهُ عَلَيْكَ بِالْجَنَّةِ ! قَالَ: إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَتَصَدَّقُ، وَلَكِنْ يَجْزِي الْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ .
It was said to Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him): Give charity, may Allah grant you Paradise! So he replied: Allah does not give charity, but He rewards those who give charity.
Hadith 1143
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ: لَا تَقُلْ تَصَدَّقْ عَلَيَّ - إِنَّمَا يَتَصَدَّقُ مَنْ يَبْتَغِي الثَّوَابَ .
Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Do not say "Give charity," because charity is given only by one who seeks reward.
