الْآيَتَانِ (118 - 119) قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَلَوْ شَاءَ رَبُّكَ لَجَعَلَ النَّاسَ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَلا يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ * إِلا مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ وَلِذَلِكَ خَلَقَهُمْ} الْآيَةَ
Verses (118 - 119) His saying, Exalted is He: {And if your Lord had willed, He could have made mankind one community; but they will not cease to differ. * Except whom your Lord has given mercy, and for that He created them} the verse

Hadith 1104
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: نَا مَنْصُورٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { وَلا يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ * إِلا مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ } وَكَذَلِكَ { خَلَقَهُمْ } - قَالَ: خَلَقَهُمْ لِلرَّحْمَةِ .
Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding the statement of Allah the Exalted: “And they will not cease to differ * except whom your Lord has given mercy” — that is, they will always continue to differ, except for those upon whom your Lord has shown mercy — and regarding “And for that He created them,” said: Allah the Exalted created them for mercy.
Hadith 1105
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، قَالَ: قُرِئَ عَلَيْنَا كِتَابُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ: { إِلا مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ } - قَالَ: أَهْلُ الرَّحْمَةِ لَا يَخْتَلِفُونَ .
Dhahhak (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When the letter of Umar bin Abdul Aziz was read to us, in which was included the statement of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic: “Except those upon whom your Lord has mercy” (__QUR_N__), he said: The people of mercy do not differ.
Hadith 1106
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَطَرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو حَرِيزٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ: { وَلا يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ * إِلا مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ وَلِذَلِكَ خَلَقَهُمْ } - قَالَ: خَلَقَهُمْ لِلرَّحْمَةِ .
When ‘Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the statement of Allah, the Exalted: “And they will not cease to differ, except whom your Lord has mercy upon, and for that He created them,” he said: Allah created them for mercy.
Hadith 1107
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، قَالَ: نَا سِمَاكٌ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { وَلا يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ * إِلا مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ } - قَالَ: مُخْتَلِفِينَ فِي الْهَوَى .
Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding Allah the Exalted’s statement: “And they will not cease to differ, except those upon whom your Lord has mercy” — that is, they will continue to differ in their desires of the self.
