Hashim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Abu Bishr (may Allah have mercy on him) about the statement of Allah, the Exalted: “Indeed, he is not of your family” (__QUR_N__), meaning, surely he is not of your family. Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) went out to pray for rain and did nothing except seek forgiveness until he returned. The people said: We did not see you supplicating for rain! He replied: I have sought rain from the doors of the sky through which rain is sent down, then he recited these verses: “Seek forgiveness from your Lord, indeed He is ever Oft-Forgiving,” that is, seek forgiveness from your Lord, indeed He is very forgiving, “He will send rain to you in abundance,” that is, He will shower abundant rain upon you, “And O my people! Seek forgiveness from your Lord, then turn to Him in repentance, He will send rain to you in abundance,” that is, O my people! Seek forgiveness from your Lord, then turn to Him, He will shower abundant rain upon you.
