الْآيَتَانِ (45 - 46) قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَنَادَى نُوحٌ رَبَّهُ فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ ابْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي وَإِنَّ وَعْدَكَ الْحَقُّ وَأَنْتَ أَحْكَمُ الْحَاكِمِينَ * قَالَ يَا نُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ} الْآيَةَ
Verses (45 - 46) His saying, Exalted is He: {And Noah called to his Lord and said, "My Lord, indeed my son is of my family; and indeed, Your promise is true; and You are the most just of judges." * He said, "O Noah, indeed he is not of your family; indeed, he is [one whose] work was other than righteous"} the verse

Hadith 1090
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا بِشْرٍ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ: { إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ } - قَالَ: لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ الَّذِينَ وَعَدْتُكَ أَنْ أُنْجِيَهُ مَعَكَ . قَالَ هُشَيْمٌ: ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ لَا أَدْرِي هُوَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ أَوْ غَيْرُهُ .
Hashim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Abu Bishr (may Allah have mercy on him) about the statement of Allah, the Exalted: “Indeed, he is not of your family” (__QUR_N__), meaning, surely he is not of your family. So he said: He is not of your family among those whose salvation I had promised you. Hashim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: He narrated this from someone, but I do not know whether it was Sa'id bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) or someone else.
Hadith 1091
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَطَرٍ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا ثَابِتٌ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: { عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ } .
Uthman bin Matar al-Shaybani (may Allah have mercy on him) reports: Thabit narrated to us, and he from Shahr bin Hawshab (may Allah have mercy on him), and he from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), that she heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “ʿAmalun ghayru salih” — that is, the deed was not righteous.
Hadith 1092
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ قَتَّةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ { إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ } .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): “Indeed, it is an unrighteous deed,” meaning: surely, it is an unrighteous deed.
Hadith 1093
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: { عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ } سُؤَالُكَ إِيَّايَ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ .
Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “A deed other than righteous” means your asking Me about something of which you have no knowledge.
Hadith 1094
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَطَرٍ، قَالَ: نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ ابْنَهُ، وَلَكِنَّهُ خَالَفَهُ فِي النِّيَّةِ وَالْعَمَلِ .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: He was his son, but he opposed him in intention and action.
Hadith 1095
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ وَهُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ: خَرَجَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَسْتَسْقِي فَلَمْ يَزِدْ عَلَى الِاسْتِغْفَارِ حَتَّى رَجَعَ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: مَا رَأَيْنَاكَ اسْتَسْقَيْتَ ! قَالَ: لَقَدْ طَلَبْتُ الْمَطَرَ بِمَجَادِيحِ السَّمَاءِ الَّذِي يُسْتَنْزَلُ بِهِ الْمَطَرُ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: { اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا } { يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا * وَيَا قَوْمِ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا } .
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) went out to pray for rain and did nothing except seek forgiveness until he returned. The people said: We did not see you supplicating for rain! He replied: I have sought rain from the doors of the sky through which rain is sent down, then he recited these verses: “Seek forgiveness from your Lord, indeed He is ever Oft-Forgiving,” that is, seek forgiveness from your Lord, indeed He is very forgiving, “He will send rain to you in abundance,” that is, He will shower abundant rain upon you, “And O my people! Seek forgiveness from your Lord, then turn to Him in repentance, He will send rain to you in abundance,” that is, O my people! Seek forgiveness from your Lord, then turn to Him, He will shower abundant rain upon you.
