الْآيَةُ (85) قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {فَقَالُوا عَلَى اللهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا رَبَّنَا لا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ}
Verse (85) His saying, Exalted is He: {So they said, "Upon Allah do we rely. Our Lord, make us not [objects of] trial for the wrongdoing people"}

Hadith 1070
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { رَبَّنَا لا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ }، قَالَ: لَا تُسَلِّطْهُمْ عَلَيْنَا فَيَفْتِنُونَا .
Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding the interpretation of ﴿رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ﴾, meaning: "O our Lord! Do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people," that is: Do not give them power over us so that they put us into trial.
Hadith 1071
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فَابْتَرَكَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأُمَرَاءِ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْهَزْهَازُ فَتَطَاوَلَ، حَتَّى مَا رَأَيْتُ فِي الْبَيْتِ أَطْوَلَ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: يَا هَزْهَازُ، لَا تَكُنْ فِتْنَةً لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ ! فَتَقَاصَرَ حَتَّى مَا رَأَيْتُ فِي الْبَيْتِ أَحَدًا أَقْصَرَ مِنْهُ .
We were with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) when a leader came who was called Al-Hazhaz. He sat arrogantly until I had not seen anyone taller than him in the house. So Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to him: O Hazhaz! «لَا تَكُنْ فِتْنَةً لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ» that is, do not become a trial for the wrongdoing people. So he shrank until I had not seen anyone smaller than him in the house.
